Vernal Equinox 2245GMT on Friday😄😄😄

The cycle of life begins anew with the arrival
of springtime in the northern hemisphere.
New life, new babies, and a good 6 months to
fatten them up for winter. There is no place in
this cycle for the life sucking black hole of
addictions, large or small. They don't fit, they
have no use......not in the grand scheme of
things.
All who come here do so because they are
hurting. If it were not so, we'd all be on
Netflix. If only for that first 10 minutes of Spring,
go out and marvel at the wonder of it all.
Vale ( and most reading this) will be dust
in well under a century......( in Vale's case a
hell of a lot sooner than that!).
Nothing any of us say or do will matter to
the inertia of this 16 quadrillion quadrillon ton
lump of iron......and the sun WILL rise tomorrow.
Welcome it, laugh in the face of it----then
spit in the face of addiction and vow that the
thief will take no more.
Welcome it with me at 2245GMT on friday.
Soon a new generation of babies, human and
animal, will be making ridiculous asses of themselves
in bodies that are growing too fast for effective
coordination of movements!😄😄😄😄😄

Executive Summary: Life goes on.

Time, the one thing none of us can afford to miss. It will always be to short, even if we get to live way beyond older than dirt stage.

It is a beautiful first day of spring where I am. Snowing like crazy. I think mother nature went on vaca ...

Vale...will be joining you in this celebration point of the year...new beginnings...new growth.

Also wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed a post on another thread from you...mentioned 'gentle readers'--it caught my attention...and today remembered the other 'great person who used this phrase...Miss Manners...your post was a heck of a lot better

Vale, you ARE a breath of spring with your spirit and light and joy.

We had a perfect first day of spring yesterday, I saw my first robin...around these parts it isn't spring until the first robin appears...closely followed by yellow finch and red winged black birds.

My mama used to say this poem when she saw her first robin, so here's to my mama and here's to the renewal and new life that spring brings every year.

Spring has sprung
The grass has riz
I wonder where
The birdie is!

My robin in my tree....

Even while it was snowing here yesterday, the cardinal in the tree behind our house continued singing his heart out for a sweetie to make a nest with...his song kept me focused on Spring.

Thanks for your post, Vale, and yes, Nature doesn't give up!

You've got to pity the males, no? They (we) are well aware of the
foolishness of our songs and plumage......not to mention announcing
our precise location via song to every goddamned thing out there that
is hungry!

But, alas, the world needs more cardinals----so this foolish chap in
your tree sings his ditty. Perhaps, with some luck, some equally foolish
lady cardinal decides..... (after careful examination of said song and plumage-
she has no access to Google)......... 'what the hell?'.

My kids (I do have kids---so the system must have some utility)
always used to ask me what animals were thinking. My reply was usually
"not much"....or...at best, two things:

"Damn, I'm hungry" & "Hey,babe---check out this plumage!"

The enduring sadness of what brings us here is that this is what addiction
does to wonderful, creative, fun, thinking people. The basics of survival and
absolutely nothing more----and by survival, I mean the next hit of their DOC.

Intelligence comes at a cost. Eventually those damned clever apes
learned how to bypass that dopamine payoff system in their reptilian brain
core and get straight to the payola........skip the time required to read the
novel and just get to the last page. All icing, and no cake.

Yeah, that stupid bird in your tree doesn't know jack about how it's all
'gonna turn out. Maybe his song sucks or his plumage isn't bright enough.
Maybe it is, and he and his Sweety watch a late spring storm toss their nest
(and babies!) to the ground and oblivion. Or maybe his story never even gets to
start, as a hungry hawk locks on to his song and swoops in for breakfast (gulp!).

But at least the dumbass had the guts to sing.

Faith is the bird that sings when the dawn is still dark..
^^^
From my signature. I LOVE birds, they are smart and hard working and they sing a symphony outside my bedroom window each morning. The plain old black crow has the intelligence of an 8 year old child. And of course the lovely ducks of this world make us all smile and know just when to catch our attention...like the Vernal Equinox.

These lovely swans live in the little bay next to my bedroom...soon it will be time for babies and watching them grow. I think the swans are perhaps the loveliest birds of all...they are also the most protective, most territorial, strongest and bravest of all...an inspiration to a codie like me.

Enjoy my swans with me...

You'd love my assortment of ducks, geese, swans and frogs too, Vale. Every time I walk along the water I see something new. I think they wait for me to show me their babies and nests and how they can fly....as graceful as swans are, they are terrible flyers.

....say it isn't so!

(although if pushed to guess, I'd say a clumsy adolescent male swan
trying to impress female....by nearly killing her!)

my dad was the one who showed me the robin redbreast as his mother did before for him...also flowers..poppies and lupine, roses and iris...he liked gladioli although that flower didn't stick with me...the easter lillies and poinsetta that he put around liberally for the appropriate holidays also made me understand that there is so much in nature to brighten our lives...in the wild...as with poppies and lupine who are, according to your point of view...wildflowers or weeks.

each spring...the pulse of life quickens as it emerges from the hibernation or growth without visibility of winter. we do the same.

thank you dear friends for the thread...it is so good.

The one who is really miffed is the one fluffing his feathers in the background...that is not a lovely display, it's what they do when they are angry. If you ever see a swan doing that and heading your way, it's a good time to run for the hills.

I was feeding ducks back in the 90s, with my
baby daughter......peacefully.
Big nasty goose (bigger than daughter!)
makes huge scene----daughter drops bread
bag and runs.....screaming!
Wrong baby daughter to mess with. It
was a comedy she'll remember to her dying
day! Me grabbing goose by long neck----taking
back our bread......damn thing hissed and
wing beat at us for 15 minutes.
I can still bring a smile to her face every
time I mention the goose thief.

The swans and geese are very territorial, they seem to get along in early spring when there is just a little space available but when it comes nesting time they want space, lots of space, and it ends up in quite a performance on the bay....the swan ruffles up and chases after the fast fleeing goose...then the goose turns and honks and wing flaps furiously at the swan, chasing it for a while, then the swan turns and the dance continues. For all the flapping and honking and fuss they make, not a feather is hurt and nobody actually tackles the other, mere gesturing and posturing for position. The females (and babies if they have them) simply step aside while all this is going on and it's strictly male swan versus male goose.

Here is a picture from last years duet....

Wow! I didn't realize how much bigger the swans are. I thought Canada Geese were pretty big! Great picture. Look at the length of the swan's wings. Amazing.
