There is no negotiating with someone who puts you in this predicament. The way to set the boundary is to call 911 and have EMS go to his house and do a wellness check. Let the professionals decipher what is real vs. manipulation.

Going forward, let him know as well what your boundary is. I had a sister do this to me as well and my boundary was:

"When you text, call, report, shout from the roof top that you are thinking or acting on suicide/homicide in my presence, my response will be to call 911 each and every time."

Although, at times, I knew she used it to manipulate me but she got the point when I had enough and called 911. This incident happened almost 5 years ago. To this day, my sister remains unstable but I no longer get those text messages.
