Drinking is legal. They do sell booze everywhere. Risking a child's life is not legal. Public intoxication is not legal. Child neglect is not legal. How can she possibly take care of a child if she is drunk?

Blood is thick. The likelihood that you can depend on her family to intervene is not likely at all. They are normally the biggest enablers of all.

Hi February13

I can tell you as a recovering alcoholic, sober for over 4 years, that what you see in public is the tip of the iceberg.

Can you visit your friend at home, unannounced, see for yourself what's really going on? If your friend was sober for a few years and relapsed, she may be in a world of trouble and indeed need some help.

If this were my friend, I would act like a friend and make sure everyone was safe, especially this innocent child.

Your actions may very well save them both from a disaster that cannot be undone.

Visiting in the evening unannounced is a great idea! I do believe that my friend mostly drinks at home in the evening so there is not much to see or report otherwise.

I was hoping to talk to a common friend/acquaintance who is a counsellor and ask her what she feels needs to be done but I found out she is away right now.
