Powerful quotes
I posted a thread a few days ago about songs that are relatable to the experiences you've had with your addict...
But what are some powerful quotes that have resonated with some of you? I find that sometimes it's only a sentence or two which sums everything up for me and I have that lightbulb type moment. Let me know if you guys have some to share. I'd love to hear some and I'm sure they would help others as well!

Melody Beattie said this in Language of Letting Go and it has stuck with me ever since...Nothing is more frustrating than expecting something from someone who has nothing to give.
Also...Let go or be dragged.
And from Al-anon...Alcoholism: You didn't CAUSE it, You can't CONTROL it, and You can't CURE it!

I'm such a quote sucker. Most of the things that got me through this whole thing weren't directly related to addiction (though there are some posts from SR that I have copied and pasted and return to in weak moments, and they are amazing at snapping my head back to the right place). Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor, wrote a book on moderating your emotions and controlling yourself, rather than letting yourself fall victim to your circumstances and feelings. A couple of favorites were:
(for surviving leaving.) "You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."
(for petty post-breakup moments) "The best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury."
(for healing.) "When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love."

My signature quote is my favorite
"What angers you controls you."
"Say what you mean, mean what you say, and don't say it mean."
"What consumes our thoughts controls our lives."
"Conflict precedes clarity."
"What you resist, persists."
"We write our own destiny, we become what we do."
"A goal is not a plan, hope is not a strategy."
"What angers you controls you."
"Say what you mean, mean what you say, and don't say it mean."

"We write our own destiny, we become what we do."
"A goal is not a plan, hope is not a strategy."
You'll never get what you truly deserve if you remain attached to what you're supposed to let go of.
If there is a small voice saying maybe this is not going to work.....listen.
On the other side of fear lies freedom.
Sometimes you have to move on without certain people. If they're meant to be in your life, they'll catch up.

Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free. Be there for others but never leave yourself behind. Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack. Sometimes when things are falling apart they may actually be falling into place. Forgiving you is my gift to you. Moving on is my gift to myself. When things aren't adding up in your life start subtracting.
