Songs/ music

I connect well with music and lyrics, especially when I'm going through a hard time in my life. Are there any songs that you guys have found helped you through the rough patches? For example: songs that have lifted your spirits up in hard times, lyrics you can relate to regarding your situation with your addict, or maybe songs that gave you strength when you felt weak? Let me know

I think the international Codie theme song is "I will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor...it's a great uplifting song I think...

Oh, I like this topic...we can talk about this for hours.

When I think of my AXGF, the song that immediately comes to mind is "Thank You" by Sister Hazel:

You were the one/Who taught me what I don't need
And I thank you/I thank you for that
You were the one/Who brought me to my senses
And I thank you/Now just leave me alone

It's an upbeat, twangy "F**k You!!" song, delivered with a smile.

Of course, I've got other songs for other moods. My favorite "angry" song is "Battery" by Metallica. When I work out, I tend to listen to hard rock, like early Ozzy (with Randy Rhodes on guitar) and early Van Halen. That stuff tends to get me going, especially a song like "Unchained".

As a rule, I stay away from songs that make me sad. There are some songs that, while I love, I cannot listen to because it's not safe for me emotionally. So I change the channel. If I hear that song in a public place, I'll immediately start changing the lyrics in my head to make them dirty, and that's how I cope with that sort of situation.

But, for me, my go-to song is Led Zeppelin's "Achilles' Last Stand". The wall of guitars and the fast, galloping rhythm section of that song immediately lift me up when I'm down.

Yeah, Zeppelin is definitely a fantastic mood changer. The absolute best thing to be listening to when you're driving into the country to go camping. Zeppelin is bread, I can listen to them every day.

I too tend to stay away from sad songs, although there's quit a few from P!nk that I like.

I gravitate towards the heavier stuff with loud drums, guitar etc. when the stress level is up. I am a long time fan of Metallica ( No Leaf Clover is a mood lifter lol ) and Godsmack ( especially when I'm angry). I also keep Janice Joplin as go to so I'm pretty eclectic.

I could run an endless list. I love the endless possibilities of how words can be strung together. Music always played its part. On my worst of days where I just couldn’t get my head clear I would crank it up and lay on the floor in front of the speakers.

Love my music heavy as well Cece!

Both sides in the madness.

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard and one of the saddest. Miles has an awesome voice.

Some inspiration…
Default ~ All is Forgiven

Sadist by Stone Sour, Tragic Truth by Five Finger Death Punch ( for those who like to split their loved ones into two people) Master of Disaster ~ Seether ( there is something about this song that haunts ) Diseased by them is about Domestic violence. Breaking Benjamin, Without You is good too, love the emotion in it…

And to step back in time, anything from Floyd, Yes, Kansas, Zepplin, Little Feet, Genesis, The Who, Sabbath ... this list would be endless here as well.

This song reminds me of several conversations with my son.

HOW TO SAVE A LIFE - The Fray

Step one, you say, We need to talk, He walks,
You say, Sit down, it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you. You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right. As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame. You begin to wonder why you came

CH Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend. Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night. Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best. Cause after all, you do know best
Try to slip past his defense. Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong. The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you. And pray to God he hears you

As he begins to raise his voice. You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road. Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things. He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Janes addiction....Jane says. That song has been about me, at times...to me, but about someone else in my life, on other occasions, and probably several more, various combinations of meanings, through-out the years. There was another song that came out last year, I think, that had obvious undertones regarding addiction. I'm not sure of the artist, but the song had something to do with being too cold outside for angels to fly, or something like that. I'm sorry. I'm too lazy at the moment to google it.

Get Gone by Fiona Apple. I played it on repeat when I kicked out my bf in the past... Here are the lyrics (hope the bad language doesn't offend):

How many times do I have to say
To get away-get gone
Flip your **** past another lasses
Humble dwelling
You got your game, made your shot, and you got away
With a lot, but I'm not turned-on
So put away that meat you're selling
Cuz I do know what's good for me-
And I've done what I could for you
But you're not benefiting, and yet I'm sitting
Singing again, sing, sing again
How can I deal with this, if he won't get with this
M'I gonna heal from this; he won't admit to it
Nothing to figure out; I gotta get him out
It's time the truth was out that he don't give a
**** about me
How many times can it escalate
Till it elevates to a place I can't breathe?
And I must decide, if you must deride
That I'm much obliged to up and go
I'll idealize, then realize that it's no
Sacrifice, because the price is paid, and
There's nothing left to grieve
****** go-
Cuz I've done what I could for you, and I do know what's
Good for me and I'm not benefiting, instead
I'm sitting singing again, singing again, singing again,
Sing, sing, sing again
How can I deal with this, if he won't get with this
M'I gonna heal from this; he won't admit to it
Nothing to figure out; I gotta get him out
It's time the truth was out that he don't give a
**** about me

Nothing more - alternate routes
Just peaceful, simple, and grounding lyrics
