Walking Together...
Walking Together...
I posted this on another forum this morning, but wanted to bring it here to share with all of you because it reminds me that I didn't arrive where I am today by walking alone.
I am so grateful for every one of you who are walking beside me, sharing your light. Together we can do what we could never do alone, and we are no longer alone.
Love you all, and happy to be walking with such wonderful people.
Keep Walking...
Barbara Aldrich
Here we stand together,
Dressed in our pain,
Covered with scars
From wounds we did not ask for
Or deserve.
So what now?
We can't go back and relive our lives.
We can't take back the innocence we lost
Or make the sadness we felt into happiness.
But we can go on from here,
So let us start.
Stretch out your hand to mine,
Close your eyes
And slowly let the pain slip away.
Let go of the sadness;
It belongs to yesterday,
And let's walk.
The earth is firm beneath our feet.
The sun is warm on our face.
Heavenly Father sees our struggle,
Smiles at our effort,
And sends us strength.
My friends, we can't stay, looking back,
Lest we falter.
We must face forward,
Eyes wide open,
And keep on walking.
Hold tight and don't let go;
You aren't walking alone,
And neither am I.

SR and all the wonderful people on these boards make a difference in my life on a daily basis. I always find something useful, something I need to hear everyday. Thanks for the post, Ann. Hugs, Marle

I never would have found the strength to actually do something about my life if I hadn't found SR, and daily I find here the motivation to keep on going....
Thanks to all of you!
Thanks to all of you!
So true, Ann, so true. Can't do this thing alone!
I loved it when my sponsor pointed out to me that the 12 steps say "WE" for a reason. This is not a program or a journey meant to be walked alone. And am I ever so grateful for that!
Hugs to you, Ann, and all my walking buddies!

Today I received a letter from my son's last gf. It was a very sad letter. The purpose of the letter was to return the key to his car to me; however, there was no key in the envelope, but instead was her "goodbye" letter telling us how much we would be missed and how much she appreciated everything we had done.
You may have read in my post that he broke up with her for good a couple of weeks ago. I have not contacted her since that time, as I thought it was for the best.
However, today I got this letter and felt horrible. Then I read your poem, and thought "that Ann has the best timing!"
Therefore, thanks for sharing that with us, and thank you for all your kind words and support over these past years.
I love you!
Hugs, Devastated

I'm glad you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
It really touched my hear this morning and tonight as I read it again and the replies, I started to snicker because a mental picture of us all walking together made quite a parade. We may have had our problems, we may have been through what nobody should ever have to go through, but we truly do walk together and God help anybody that gets in our way.

Thank you...this is beautiful and I truly am grateful for everyone walking with me. I love you all.
This kind of reminds me of siblings. I can be say things or tease or get in little spats with htem, but let anyone outside say something...look out buster, you're history. Same here. When one of us is in dire need that codie bus (and the fire ants if needed) is on its way!

That poem reflects a lot of the decisions I had to make when my AH went into and came out of recovery. I made a decision to stick by him in recovery (not in active addiction) and therefore every day I had to chose to look forward.
People ask me all the time, how could you stay with him? how do you get past all the terrible things he did to you? The answer is that I:
face forward (choosing to forget the past)
Eyes wide open (not living in DENIAL, not getting sucked into the drama)
And keep on walking (following thru with the choices I made)
Hold tight (to Jesus) and don't let go

Not only do I love this message today but it made my eyes well up with tears to see some of the sr friends come back from our days together back in 2007!
No...we can't go back and relive our lives and it helps to remember to remain grounded in the present.

Oh my gosh, thank you for bumping this all the way from 2007, Dolly. Indeed, we have walked with so many people over the years and it just touches my heart to remember them here. Some are still around, some have moved forward with their lives and only drop in occasionally, but every one of them has been important to my recovery and it has been an honour to walk with so many wonderful people here.
Indeed it is a "we" program. Not one of us has to do this alone.
Thank you for this reminder that we walk together, sharing our tears, sharing our laughter, good days and bad and we share our light with those who cannot find theirs and hold each other up along the journey.
I love you all, really I do. You have brightened my days here for 11 years this month and it is a privilege to call you friends.
Now pass the tissues please.
