Update: I finally got away from abusive AH

I am feeling so grateful for the very supportive words from several of you. Your words gave me the courage to get away from my abusive AH. I just left today with my kids and am staying at a domestic violence shelter. I feel relieved to be away from him. I am scared of what the future holds for us but at least now I know there's a chance for one.

That's WONDERFUL news, bree. You've not only helped yourself and your kids, you've helped a lot of women who are exactly where you were. You give them hope, courage, and strength.

Thanks so much for letting us know! And be sure to grab onto as much help and support from the professionals there at the shelter as you can--there is a LOT to be had!

What courage that took, I'm so proud of you! And as Lexiecat said grab onto as much support and guidance that is offered by the professionals there.

This is a stepping stone towards a much happier, safer and healthier life for you and your children.

This is amazing....so happy to hear this. Yes, there is always fear of the unknown and esp when leaving a situation like this with kids-but this giant courageous step you just took literally just changed not only your life, but your kids lives-forever. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes as I type this bc I just wabt to give you a hug and let you know it will be ok. At least you're out. That is the most important thing....and the fear of what will happen is nothing compared to the knowing for certain what your life was going to be had you stayed. Very proud of you !

Three years ago, I did exactly the same thing as you: shelter with my kids. It's not going to be easy, but a beautiful life awaits you. You can do it.

(I strongly recommend filing for an order of protection during this time.)

I totally agree. You won't be in the shelter forever, and an order can help keep you safe by stopping simple contact BEFORE it escalates.

bree...we are all so relieved and proud of you for how you pushed forward in such difficult circumstances!
It is only natural to feel scared of the unknown. I don't know anyone who isn't.
But, if you have dealt with what you have already lived through...you are strong enough to face whatever you need to....
Continue to reach out and accept all the help that is offered....

Please keep us updated on your journey.
We all are thinking about you and we care very much!

i'm so glad you're out of that horrible situation Bree. Be very careful won't you? He's the sort that may react badly to losing control.
