For the "long timers", I need your help.
Hey peeps, we are coming up on "recruiting season" here in the USA. All these drinking holidays means we are going to be getting a lot of new people. Please take a few minutes to read this thread:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ng-abused.html
I _really_ need everybody to follow these guidelines carefuly. If you find that a new member who is being abused is stirring up emotions _please_ let me know. Do not post, there are plenty of other newcomers who also need attention.
The posts that all of you "long timers" make here on SoberRecovery is what makes this website such a haven on the web. I know I can count on you to help me help the newcomers.

thanks Mike, i hadn't seen the link before and it is thoughtful and timely. we come here, i did, often pretty broken and i personally found the gentle approach from SR members as a newcomer and that is what began my healing...
a couple of things from Ann in the link that are very helpful reminders for me, both here and irl:
"In recovery we don’t “tell” anyone what to do, we share our own experience, strength and hope and, if asked, we gently and respectfully offer suggestions.
and
But when I feel my adrenaline pumping over a post I am reading, I find it good to just sit on my hands until I can calmly and respectfully say what is in my heart." (my own emphasis)
not really a 'long timer' (yet!) but i appreciate the posting of this thread very much! have a grateful turkey day!

Long - timer. I very intentionally do not use the word "old" because I refuse to be "old". I try to live as if I were still 21
* ok, so if you multiply 21 a few times ... then I am "old" *

Thanks for the reminder Mike (not sure if I am a long timer either LOL)
I tend to be very gentle with other friends and family members and just share my esh as a dv survivor but I must admit that I can get a bit short in the newcomer to alcoholism section.
