Well I did it - it went pretty well. He already knows he has a drinking problem and is wanting help, but isn't quite ready to take the first step. Therefore it was no surprise to him. I told him I needed to work on me while he worked on himself and it would work out much better for both of us. He did not try to change my mind and said he wants my happiness. He asked if we could still talk from time to time and I agreed saying that if he called me while drinking I would hang up and turn off my phone. I was already doing that, so that's really no big change. I kept it short, to the point and honest. He has never been the stalking or abusive type so I'm not worried about that, but will nonetheless stay aware. Thanks for every one's suggestions.

Good for YOU, TX!! You stuck to your guns, which is more than I have done in the past. I commend you, and I know how hard it was for you.
Now it's time to start healing and focusing on YOU.
Inspiring!
