One I have found very helpful is Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend.

Here's a link that displays some Alanon conference approved literature. You can always order these from your local Alanon group or maybe find them in bookstores if you don't want to order online. Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature There are also some recommendations in this sticky thread. http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...c-reading.html (Classic Reading)

| Under the Influence : A Guide to the Myths and Realities of Alcoholism by Milam and Ketchum (This book explains the disease model of alcoholism.) Drinking: A love story by Caroline Knapp (I found that the description of how she fell into alcoholism and how she found her way out very helpful. It was also excellent in pointing out how this disease has no socioeconomic barriers.) One Day at a Time Alanon Daily Reader (I open this one to any page randomly and it always seems to be the thing I need at that moment.) I'll try to think of some more for you. gentle hugs |

Here is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. I could go on and on. I have found so many books to be helpful to me in my recovery. Ironically, the most helpful ones really have nothing to do with addiction. "The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle "Getting the Love You Want" by Harville Hendrix "What Happy People Know" by Dan Baker "Women Who Run With the Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes "Evolve Your Brain" by Dr. Joe Dispenza "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran "Conscious Loving" by Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks Currently reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle Did I mention that I could go on and on....lol L

| Addict in the Family by Beverly Conyers. Available through Hazelden. Does a great job of describing the behavior/responses we see in the addict and how the brain has been changed because of the substances - and then beyond that how we can truly help the addict and help ourselves. |

Lots of great ones out there (including the ones mentioned already). I have found most of the Hazelden ones to be good, too. My absolute favorites are still the Getting Them Sober books. Under the Influence has really been helpful to me,to. Father (Joe?) Martin's Chalktalks was a simple read that was very good, too. FWIW; I've found so many great recovery books at resale stores like the Goodwill, and you can't beat the price. |
