I need advice about withdraws

I have been drinking about 10-12 and sometimes 12-15 beers consistently for over 15 years every night after work. I do not drink in the morning or afternoon, actually have no desire to. However when I get home around 4-5pm my daily stop is for an 18 pack. I also smoke a pack a day. I am on no medications and consider myself healthy and fit. I have truly wanted to just quick drinking beer for a while now. I do not drink hard liquor or wine, just bud-light. Here is my dilema: I understand that after about 3-4 days of quiting I will have withdraw seizures. This scares the daylights out of me. I have an 18 year old daughter and a 5 yr old daughter and drive on the freeways alot at work. I am scared about driving and having a seizure while driving.

Will I indeed get withdraws? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much. I at least made it to this step.

Best advice I can give you is to see your doctor and be honest about wanting to stop drinking. Medical support can be helpful in reducing the anxiety that comes with withdrawal and anti-seizure meds can be given too if the doctor thinks it necessary. Please consult your doctor to detox safely.

See your Doctor and tell him everything before quitting Cold Turkey. Have you tried to stop before and had seizures? When was the last time you stopped drinking and for how long? Before I got sober I drank a good bit more than you do (24/7 too) and never had a seizure from withdrawl. I had everything but a seizure though (including hallucinations) so withdrawls can be very severe to very mild depending on all kinds of variables. Good luck getting sober. You will probably need help so look into AA and ask your Doctor about Naltrexone to help with craving. He may also prescribe Ativan as an Anti-Seizure/Anti-Anxiety Med.
