Administrator | Reporting Private Messages
When you receive a private message you will see this little image on the bottom left of the message. If you click on that image it will immediately report the private message. No second chances. Don't click on that image unless you want the private message reported. The reported PMs are set up so only admins (Doug and Morning Glory) can see them after they are reported. This is to protect moderator's and member's privacy. We don't want to know the content of your PMs so please do not use this report feature unless it is something threatening or obvious spam. Examples would be a pm about Nike shoes, online pharmacies, treatment center advertisements, etc... Predators may use the PM system to send unwanted inappropriate sexual images or other serious, threatening advances that may be harmful to our new vulnerable members. These are things we want to know about to protect our members. We don't need to know about someone who is bothering you with harmless private messages. Just put that person on ignore to avoid any more messages from them. To put someone on ignore go into your user cp and click on the edit ignore list link on the left and add their user name and click ok. http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...?do=ignorelist You will no longer receive private messages from that person and you will not see their posts on the forums. We cannot read your private messages unless we actually go into your account and change your password and log into your account to read your messages. We cannot put your password back because we don't know your password. There are a few add ons to vBulletin that let site owners read private messages. None of those add ons are installed here and they won't be installed here. I have logged in and read private messages a couple of times. One person was a known dangerous predator with several victims and the other time was when we were attacked by a large group of trolls from a bad site. Those are the only times and they were already permanently banned. Contrary to rumors we have never read any other PMs from other current or banned members. If we ban a spammer or someone causing major problems I just hit a button that mass deletes all their sent PMs without having to read them. If a PM is reported we will see it. If your email address is outdated and you are set on instant email notification when you receive a PM the email notification will bounce back to us with the contents of the PM included. Some email providers also have us on their blacklist and the auto emails sent out will also bounce back to us with the contents of the PM. If you want to avoid this completely don't subscribe to the email notification when you receive a PM. We very rarely read our bounced email and just delete them. I've notified a couple of users that I accidentally saw their PM when I read an email which contained the PM. If you haven't been notified we haven't seen any of your PMs. Chat transcripts are read when there are problems reported. All instant chat messages that are private in chat show in the chat transcripts. We only read the chat transcripts occasionally or when someone reports a problem.
