profile problem

I'm trying to clean up old messages on my profile.
I tried to delete them, but, it only allows a "soft" delete. That leaves a message there saying the message has been deleted.

This does NOT clean up the old messages, LOL! Indeed, it makes it worse!

How can I get rid of the boxes completely?
In time, I'll have a bunch of boxes with deleted messages a mile long!
I'd prefer, like the pm's, not to have them at all. I mean, to be able to get rid of them, like we can the pm's.
