| question about healthy substituting
i was just wondering what would be some good healthy substitutes for alcohol .like today i noticed (mostly because of my past job and habits there) that right around the 2-230 marker on a day that was busy i'd tell myself i was going to go home drink after work .is there any way to instead curb these with some kind of healthier non alcoholic substitute?

I'd recommend really focusing on your sobriety...not that I'm saying you're not, just either way, that should be your main focus. That said... On many things, Wakeup and I are on different ends of the "what is healthy" spectrum (which is fine), but on this we totally agree. Water is the healthiest drink. That, and coconut milk, are all I drink. I doubt someone is going to come in and give you a suggestion for a drink you've never heard of. Soda? Even (and some would say especially) diet...full of sugar and horrible for you. Juice? Full of sugar and some would say (I agree) horrible for you. Though, both soda and juice are better than alcohol for someone with alcohol problems. Tea? I wouldn't touch it, but it's a healthy alternative. Coffee? Probably not bad for you. Water with lemon / lime? Try it. These are just some suggestions. Good luck and keep us posted.

I replaced my drinking with eating dried, unsulfured fruits from Trader Joes. They give me the sugar replacement, while providing beneficial nutrients. You might give it a try, as I realized my issue was more of an oral fixation than an actual drink to replace the booze with. 81 days sober today!! |

| If you are talking about the mechanical process of pouring a liquid down your throat, any one of the above will work. However if your desire is to go home and "escape" with alcohol after work, I would suggest you create a new routine(s) that will occupy your mind and time so that they will plunge out the desire to get loaded. It can be a quick walk, visit a friend, volunteer at a mission, any kind of a hobby you enjoy, whatever, just wipe the urge to go home and get loaded of your mind.

San pellegrino, lots of ice, and fresh lime or lemon slices. I buy it by the case. Has done the trick for me for seven months.
