| mergirl | Our fitness goals
o.k., so phal took a hiatus and his thread went with him. While we all mourn the loss of the beautiful progress pics, and hope for our buddy to hurry back, we need to stay on track with our fitness goals, and hope for newcomers to post pics with us ![]() my short term goal right now is to make it to the gym at least twice this week. My long term goal at the moment is to eat healthy and not gain back any of the weight I have lost back.

hehe Yay!! You are working on the summer slim down right now? We are just coming into what looks to be a long, wet winter, and I have to fight the "pad up" trend haha.

Thanks for the new thread, Lisa. As you guys know, I still haven't managed to come out of this relapse. And now with the death in my family and Phal's abrupt departure from SR, I am more than a little disoriented. Depression doesn't help either. But I'll try harder, I need to get this right at some point. As for my fitness goals, I need to get back to the gym, went there once in the last 2 weeks and not feeling good about it. So for me, it's getting back into daily workouts if I can pull this off. Oh, and I need to dig out some more cheerleading pix! Ocean

MmMM, get er done=) I am back on the health wagon=) Made it to the gym twice last week (went twice today but no parking wither time uhg), and I am eating good. House mates who are foodies are a terrible temptation, we have been pigging out for like 2 weeks around here!

| A new dawn and new chapter |
What happened to phal? Hope he's alright. Anyway my near two month relapse left me out of the gym most of the time. Looking at my journal I had one full week all throughout August and September. That's just plain sad! Tonight was my first time back and I can fell what I already knew and I lost some strengh. Doing deadlifts felt like I was trying to commit suicide, even with a lighter weight added on. But hopefully in the next month or so I should be back to where I was. For right now I'm probably just gonna do a two day full body split for this week then a three day split next week. And seeing how I feel trying to get back on my normal 4 day split after that. |

ya, if I take a week off from the gym I can feel it. Welcome back. I chatted with phal a couple of days ago and he seemed fine.

One of the main reasons I joined this site (aside from getting the help to stay sober) was the fact that there were numerous threads about diet, nutrition, and fitness. Thank you to all who brought this to fruition. I am an avid exerciser who primarily enjoys running and weightlifting, but as I'm sure most of you can related, I lose my way when I relapse. In my most recent relapse (began in April), I gained 30 pounds. Each day was basically as follows: wake up, work (order junk food for lunch to stave off hangover), come home, drink, eat junk food for dinner, drink more, binge on junk food for "4th meal," go to bed. Go figure my weight would balloon. I went from 170 to 200 pounds and my running has never been the same. I lied to everyone I knew, saying I had a hip injury that has kept me from running (hence the weight gain). I am too ashamed to admit to anyone what has really happened. My hip, truth be told, is perfectly fine. Anyway, I've wrestled with drinking since April ... near the end of September, I decided to re-commit myself to the gym, begin eating all meals at home, etc. and did a great job with that plan. For three weeks, I worked out nearly every day, cooked my meals, felt great about it. However, I wasn't feeling any change physically. Why? I still hadn't cut out the drinking. After a drinking binge last Friday night (10/16), I decided to throw out my alcohol. Feeling healthy and fit is very important to me, and it was very disheartening to see that I have worked my tail-end off in the gym for nearly a month and gotten absolutely nowhere in terms of fitness progress. Obviously, the importance of quitting drinking goes far beyond fitness, but I wanted to keep it relevant to this topic. Thanks all for reading; sorry I rambled. Thanks for sharing all your stories and for allowing me to share mine. Brad |

you getting personal progress pics then? haha Welcome wg, I am afraid our fitness thread tapered a bit with the hiatus of its founder. I have been off the booze for 9+ months, and honestly am in the best physical condition I have been in for over 20 years. This week the gym is a wash, dental appointments, dates and my new found curiosity over AA meetings sucked all my time dry, I have been eating really healthy t compensate, and of course work still keeps me walking my 7-10 miles a day.

wendellgee, I can really relate to your story. At one time, I was in such good shape- I'd work out 5 or 6 times a week (cardio and weights) and just felt so good. Granted, I was still drinking during all of this but not as much as I have been the past 6 months or so. Lately I would struggle just to get through a day at work so by the time I would leave, all I wanted to do was go home, drink some more, go to sleep and do it all over again. Oh and eat crappy foods of course. I've gained 35 pounds since this cycle started and even though I was miserable with myself, I couldn't stop. But now I'm on Day 4 of no drinking and have gone to the gym the past couple of days. My goal is to start out with 4 times a week and then work my way up to 5 or 6 again. When the summer comes back around next year, I want to wear cute bikinis on the beach again |

Thanks for the comments, pretty bad pic though. I had a massive back and bicep workout today and am exhausted, laying on the sofa in agony, definite rest day tomorrow
