I joined the gym today!

Yup, after gaining 45 lbs in the last year or so, I have said enough is enough. Things have really gone downhill. I had four back to back "relationships," the light of my life (my little Teddy died), I had the most horrendous job EVER and had to quit after six months, and etc.

At any rate, I got a super deal. It's $16 a month and a mile from my house. They have everything! So, I look forward to being part of this Fitness, Health and Nutrition fora and will be reading all of your threads for inspiration and your stories.

Hey Katie,

That's a great step. I just joined a few days ago. I'm really working hard, and enjoying it. Have fun with it. I'm taking a Bellydancing class this week

Kickboxing looks fun too, gonna try that next.

Hey, we can compare notes through our journey

I myself go in for Yoga and that Spin cycling, but those other classes you are interested in are great too. I would like to try them both, but think I will start with the two I mentioned first. At any rate, good for us!!

Sure, I'm all about it

I've been doing pretty good for being a lazy ass for so long, lol.

I saw the kickboxing class in session today while I was on the Eliptical Machine. The music really got me going and it looks like a great way to take agression out. Right up my alley

Spin Cycling is pretty high intensity, good for you!

Well, I do confess I asked the guy if I could go at my own pace and he said yes. Honestly, I have a gym grade elliptical and at one point could do three miles in less than half an hour. Or I used to do it for 45 minutes. However, I have gotten so out of shape.

Oh well, it's ok. I will go to the gym tomorrow and start. Baby steps. Thanks!

No, wish I did, but I am a solitary person. My weight has gone so up and down (disorders), but that doesn't mean I cannot get back there again. I have saved all of my size 6 clothing so I am not going to keep on being where I'm at. I refuse to buy more fat clothes - I really do - and I am tired of looking in the mirror. Time to change!

Good strategy if you can't motivate yourself at all. I see so many people chatting instead of working out or going too slowly so that they can continue talking, so I'd watch out for that.

Congrats, Katie and Sweets!

One more thing: diet is responsible for most weight loss, so you'd have to work on that front too. Good luck!

Haha! My gf and I joined curves together and went for an entire year. We never broke a sweat (because working that hard would mean we couldn't gab) and we never lost a pound, which may be because we never missed the opportunity to go next door after for chips and salsa!

I think working out everyday and following WW worked so well for me FINALLY because I was at a point in my life where I desperately wanted to control something, anything, and my weight/health seemed like the only thing I could take control of at the time.

Watch out for those yoga classes, I did one at my 24 hour fitness and I thought it was going to be for relaxation and flexibility, but it was really designed by sadist for torture. My gut muscles were so sore the next day I thought I was going to puke!

Hey, thanks

Yes, diet is very important. At one point I lost 60lbs. and kept it off for awhile. I put some of it back, but managed to keep most of it off. Now I want to lose about 15 lbs. and tone up alot.

I used to crave sweets before I started drinking, and now I am craving them again, but I keep that under control. I love to cook, but when I was drinking I pretty much stopped. Now I am finding new healthy recipes, and making a conscious effort to cook and eat healthy.
