| A new Diet
I am trying a diet that my brother and sister in law are on right now and they have lost 30 and 29 lbs respectively in the past 5 to 6 months Its called the 3 hour diet. You are supposed to do it this way 400 cal. for breakfast 100 cal. snack 3 hours later 400 cal. for lunch 100 cal. snack 3 hours later 400 cal. dinner 100 cal. snack 3 hours later (your bedtime treat) and about 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week. You only consume 1,500 calories but eating this way is supposed to keep your metabolism going so that it doesn't start slowing down. I am going to try it so that I can be 40 lbs thinner by Christmas. Has anyone else had any success with a diet like this? |

It is...I have been on it for a week and its not to hard. You find all kinds of stuff you can eat as long as you stay under 400 calories for meals and 100 calories for snacks. I love the diet...i think it is probably the easiest one I have been on because you don't have to give up any foods you love really (well except fried foods and junk but I don't really eat that much of that anyway)

It sounds a lot like the Six Week Body Makeover diet, the premise is the same eating every 3 hours....just have to be able to be around food of some sort every 3 hours!!!! I tried it ...tougher than one might think. good luck to anyone who tries it, bet it works if you work it.

It does. I work in an office environment so its pretty easy for me to get to my snacks.......the hardest part I have found is finding stuff under 400 calories to eat but if you take the time to measure out your calories on your plate, its not to bad. As to when I am out and about, I carry those 100 calorie snack packs with me or I carry a granola bar in my purse. Its stuff that I am sure I under 100 cals. with but that I don't have to refridgerate. Pretty good. |

I hit post before I meant to... Like today I ate a light multi grain english muffin for 100 calories with 1 pat of butter about 100 calories, 1 cup of watermelon, strawberries and pineapple mixed, 3 slices of microwave bacon for 60 calories with orange juice for 90 calories. I didn't quite meet 400 calories but right under it. For my snack at 10:30 I had a 100 cal snack pack of chips. I like this diet. Some diets are easier for some people. I could never do the low carb diets......just not me.... |

I have hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and I've learned from several sources that your blood sugar level drops, 3 to 3 1/2 hours after you eat, so that's why it's very good to set your alarm and eat something with protein, every 3 - 3 1/2 hours.

I like the sound of this diet! I am not overweight significantly, but I am getting older and don't want weight to be an issue, we can't lose is as easily once we hit our upper 30's and 40's. What are some easy dinner ideas that I can do that even the kids will like?

good luck with your diet.. although i hate the word "diet".. it always seems to have a negative or dreadful connotation to it for some reason, as well as seems to imply something short-term.. i prefer to think of it as a healthy lifestyle change. that's just me though. | |

Nina---my dad is diabetic and he was told to start this sort of diet sometime ago and never did. It will be a good thing for him. Deen--you can really eat whatever you like as long as you control the portion size and check the calories. For example, you can make tacos as long as you use the leanest meat, follow the serving size on the package, use fat free cheese, fat free sour cream and wheat tortillas....lettuce, tomatoes, onion etc are all freebies (you can have as much of those as you'd like) You can have one taco loaded with those veggies along with a salad on the side. I use the Salad Spritzer dressing 10 calories for 10 sprays and the Italian taste fine to me. When you are doing this diet you must make sure you count the calories in what you drink....for example milk and juice both contain considerable calories and must be factored into your 400 calories. You have to stay away from hotdogs, fried foods, junk foods, cookies, etc....unless the stuff is lowfat and you can stay under 400 calories while doing it. Stringerbelle----I was a snacker, I'd eat a little of a fattening meal and still be hungry in an hour, go back to the kitchen snack a little etc..... It did take a little getting used to but I have learned the meals I can eat that will make me fill full and I try to eat every three hours regardless of whether I am STARVING or not......even if its a piece of fruit, just something to keep my metabolism going. |

Just some more info to back this up.... Brought to you by "The Biggest Loser Club" July 14, 2006 Go Primitive, Lose Pounds Mimic a cave man (or woman), and snack as you go. For most of us, life gets hectic as soon as we wake up. But no matter what your schedule is like, you MUST be consistent about eating regularly. In fact, you need to be eating every 3 hours that you're awake. How to fit in all that eating? Snack like the ancients. Hunters and gatherers ate as they traveled, picking nuts, seeds, and berries off bushes to keep them fueled up. Not fat. You can do the same. Pre-load some baggies filled with fruits and nuts. Then throw them in the car or your bag to eat at regular intervals. Biggest Loser Club dietitian Greg Hottinger likes these natural, portable options: Nuts - 40 calorie serving Almonds, 6 whole = 42 calories Cashews, 4 whole = 38 calories Pecans, 4 halves = 40 calories Pistachios, 13 shelled = 39 calories Walnuts, 3 halves = 37 calories Fruits - 60 calorie (serving size indicated) 4 ounces apple (tennis ball size) 4 dried apple rings 4 whole apricots 8 dried apricot halves 1/2 large banana 3 dates 1 1/2 dried figs 17 small grapes 1 medium orange 1 medium peach 2 small plums 3 prunes Now mix up your own combination, and keep moving!

That sounds like a really good eating plan. My ex-boss actually lost about 30 pounds within about 3 months by simply eating those Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice meals for every meal. Those are actually pretty nutritious (except for the sodium content) and they are definitely in that low calorie range. Best of luck JWife and keep us posted.
