Need a reason to motivate you to strength train? Several new studies show that mild-to-moderate resistance training can reduce blood pressure, stress levels, lower LDL cholesterol levels and higher HDL cholesterol levels, all of which improves cardiovascular health. Still not motivated? Weight training has also shown to improve the way the body processes sugar, which could reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

Good enough reason for me!

Coulis decoded. Ever seen coulis on a restaurant menu and wondered what it is? A coulis is a puree of a fruit or vegetable served as a sauce. A coulis (pronounced koo lee) is usually only seasoned with a small amount of lemon, sugar or salt and pepper. So don't shy away from a coulis, it may be one of your heart healthy sauce options.

Grill healthy. Looking to reduce cholesterol and saturated fat without missing out on summer grilling. Try a portabella burger. Portabella mushrooms are the perfect size for a burger bun. Plus they are low in calorie and have the meaty texture of beef. Spray the grill with cooking spray, and grill the mushroom for 10 minutes, turning once. Top with your favorite burger fixins and enjoy!

Are you a member of the clean plate club? If so, don't feel discouraged. Many Americans usually eat everything on their plates. Try this. Gradually increase the amount of food you keep on your plate, without going hungry. You'll start to see how little changes can make a big impact.

Personally, I think this is the best tip of all. It's the little changes over time that make the biggest impact. I think we all want a quick "fix" but, let's face it, we didn't get here overnight; and we're not going to get to our goals overnight either. Slow and steady still wins the race as the old story about the tortoise and the hare taught us.

Have a snack attack? Always carry healthy snacks with you or keep them in your desk at work. Snacks such as dried or fresh fruit or a small bag of nuts or pretzels are good options, and you’ll be less tempted to buy high fat items from vending machines or while you are out. Look ahead to your week and plan your grocery list so you have them on hand.

Large servings of even low fat food could undermine weight loss goals. To lose weight, calorie intake must be less than calories burned! Portion size is the key to any healthy eating plan. Just because a food is “fat free” or “sugar free” doesn’t mean it is without calories. One sugar free chocolate chip cookie is 50 calories while a regular chocolate chip cookie is 53 calories. All in all, the calorie difference is minimal, so enjoy the regular cookie and stick to the serving size.

Buy better bread. If you eat white bread, you're eating vitamin-fortified starch. Whole wheat bread has fiber, important nutrients such as selenium and copper, and many other healthy ingredients. Whole grain foods reduce the risk of diabetes, breast cancer, and heart disease. Just don't be fooled by a dark color: Unless the first ingredient includes the word "whole," it isn't whole wheat bread.

I personally LOVE 12 grain bread!

An apple a day keeps the munchies away. Put an apple on your desk in the morning, and an apple becomes ‘see-food’…the handiest snack to grab when the munchies hit. If it's not right there, you'll find yourself hunting for donuts or whatever else is around.

Order half your entrée as takeout. One restaurant portion could feed an entire fraternity house--who needs all those calories? So when you order an entree, ask them to automatically put half of it directly into a take-home box. That way, it'll never show up on your plate! And you'll have a ready-made meal for tomorrow.

Shalom!

Have a sweet tooth? Make fruit kebabs for a nutrient packed and energy boosting dessert. Pineapples, bananas, apples and pears are great raw but cook well directly on the grill or wrapped in tinfoil first. Serve with nonfat yogurt or fat-free whip cream. This tasty treat will have your guest begging for more fruit!

Shalom!

Nowadays obesity is the worldwide problem and there are wide ranges of programs to weight loss. The easiest way of diet loss program is following diet plan.

There are wide ranges of weight loss programs. By taking low calorie food we can control the overweight but we should not be hungry and keep ourselves starving to lose weight. Keeping stomach is not the correct way in diet process.

There are some other weight loss programs such as diet pills, etc but there is chance of side effects to our health so it is better to take a diet plan by consulting a good physician and following the suggestions given by him as it will help us from future health problems such as heart attack, depression, etc.

Something’s fishy. Fish is an excellent addition to your meal plan because it provides protein and a healthy source of fat. Tuna, salmon, herring, and mackerel in moderate servings will keep your weight loss program afloat! Getting your source of Omega 3 fatty acids will help to increase good cholesterol, reduce your risk of heart disease and reduce blood pressure. So make a point to get 3 serving of fish in a week!

Say adios to the fatty foods and hola to the healthy alternatives Mexican cuisine has to offer. A general rule of thumb for entrees is to eat soft-shelled dishes like burritos, enchiladas and soft tacos. Order sour cream, cheese, and guacamole on the side, since there tends to be a lot of fat lurking in them. Choose to spice it up with salsa or green sauce—they’re high in flavor and low in fat and calories.

Shalom!

Using your plate to eyeball portion size is ideal when eating out. About half your plate should contain vegetables or fruits, while a quarter should contain protein from low-fat dairy, lean meats or protein rich vegetables. What’s on the other quarter? Why whole grain food of course! Foods like wild rice, whole-wheat pasta and quinoa are excellent side dishes.

One potato, two potato! Do you love potatoes? Did you know there are many varieties that offer different nutrients? Small red potatoes are used for baking and are less starchy. Purple potatoes are high in antioxidants and sweet potatoes are a great source of vitamin A. Be sure to keep your serving under control to about the size of a computer mouse and start baking today.

According to the National Restaurant Association most Americans eat out at least four times a week on average. Do you? If so, plan your order ahead of time to avoid a diet detour disaster. When ordering be sure to order dishes that have the words "steamed", "poached", "grilled", or "baked" as part of their description. Stay away from "fried", "sauteed", and "breaded".

Shalom!

There are many ways available in the market to loss weight.Either we can follow strict rules of dieting or do some physical exercise. Some fat losing drinks are also available in the market.

But whether you know that we can also lose weight by eating banana & by drinking a lot of water. I like it most as it seems a natural way and as it doesn't requires a separate time for it.

This is a great post. Since I suffer from an eating disorder, am a serious binge eater, many of the helpful things for others don't work for someone in as serious a predicament as me. I know, because I have tried literally everything over the past 50 years. Nothing works for me except a recovery program, 12 Steps.

One thing that my dr. has begun to work with me on is to eat raw. That's right, all raw. Our eating disordered bodies get so out of balance, that we need serious, maximum nutrition. I have already been eating: No sugar, no flour, no junk of any kind. Some carbs my body does not tolerate and give me strong cravings, as well as cheese - yes, I am having to face the fact that cheese and dairy just don't do well in my body. These are very difficult foods to give up.

I have incorporated many raw foods into my eating plan, and again, am thinking of following my dr's advice to go totally raw for a length of time. Anyway, if someone does have a serious eating disorder, we need to do something other than do a "diet". Diets don't work! I know, because I have been on one for almost my entire life. Little by little, when I'm on a "diet", I start sneaking foods in that I shouldn't be eating: sugar, flour. Then, I can't stop eating them. I am a food addict and there are "substances" made from sugar and flour that my poor little addicted brain just can no longer tolerate in any way, shape or form.

I wish it were different for me, but it's not. I need to focus on the solution rather than the "problem". Diets become 'the problem' for me. The solution is to remove these addictive substances from my life one day at a time. And, yes, exercise needs to be part of any life style...thanks to ballynutition last post
