12 Steps?

Is there an actual 12 step program for overeaters? This may sound silly, I know, but I read something in one of your posts about it.

Yes, Wendy, there is. That is wonderful that you should ask. It is taken from the same 12 step program of AA, but you put food where the word alcohol is. I think that they are found in the Stickys at the top of this page. I'll check to make sure. Bad Memory keeps getting in my way. LOL!!!!

The 12 steps of OA
--
1. We admitted we were powerless over food-that our lives have become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives oveer to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. We're entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people we had ahrmed wherever possible, except when to do so would injure that or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contract with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Step, we tried to carry this message to compulsive overeaters and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Thanks Nina, I thought that would be the case but I was'nt sure. I need to get alot of weight off. I have dropped about 40 pounds before, but I did it the wrong way, starving myself. I was able to keep it off, but now I am ready to get the rest off and I cant seem to find a way to do it. I have even been considering the gastric bypass thing, which I am really scared of. I am just at a loss. I feel like if I could get a doctor to tell me exactly what I need to eat from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep I could do it, but I dont know where to get something like this. Do you know of anything?

Wendy,
Have you ever attended a face-to -face Overeaters Anonymous meeting? There you will get the help and the information that you need and you can find a sponsor, which will help you so much with your food plans. Also keep coming back here to this site and everyone shares there ideas of menus and other pertinent information. I have heard of many people that found there own personal nutritionist or dietitian. You can get referred through your regular Dr.

Well after I had my son my OB was supposed to set me up an app with a nutritionist, but it never happened. I am sure my ins probably does not cover it, and you know my husband has problems, so we are'nt exactly rich, but I guess I could check into it for myself. No I havent been to a f2f meeting.
I am just so tired of not feeling good, not liking the way I look in any of the clothes I put on. The few I have that I can fit. Heart disease runs in my family, rampant, and I want to see my son grow up and become successful. My mother had a quadruple bypass my senior year in high school and I remember how scary it was and I dont want to put my son through that. I just want to get the fat off and be healthy. Its just so hard.

Wendy,
Go here for Online OA Meetings whenever you need to. They are having an OA Meeting every three hours; 24/7.

http://www.therecoverygroup.org/index.html

There OA Homepage Website is down right now, so I can't seem to get to the f2f meetings locater but, I will keep checking and I will post the link for meetings in your area when I can. Keep coming back here as often as possible. It is really helping me and others to be here regularly. I have lost 8 lbs. in the last little while. We are here for you.
