Big Huge Rant.......

After watching The Biggest Loser last night (I watch it every week) I felt
really betrayed.
The 2 engaged couples lost an incredible amount of weight and looked great.
They spent 10 days on the ranch under direct supervision of their trainors.
Went home to continue on their own for the next 4 months then returned
to the ranch for the final weigh in.
The transformation of all four individuals was amazing!
Here's where my gripe comes into play.
Each couple returned home to find their living rooms transformed into
a 24/7 Fitness center all the finest equipment. Fridges stocked with
healthy foods, one couple won a months worth of prepared foods for a month!
The trainors even showed up at their homes mid way thru to encourage them.
The big prize was a $50,000 paid wedding.
Ok, how real is this for the average person.
Sure you can get Jenny Craig (expensive)
Get a personal trainor for 1 hour sessions (expensive)
(can you imagine what one would cost to work with you all day, lilke on the show?)
Work out constantly, I swear it seems like not one of the participants has a job.
What is the point to this show, come on really. The average person does not have the resources to give 4 months to personal care.
Just my gripe.....
Oh yeah, btw the book "The Biggest Loser" is out at your local bookstores.
Do you think the trainors Jillian and Bob will make house calls if you buy the book? LOL

lol...

I felt the same way when Oprah got a live in cook that prepared all her diet meals..

I thought.. hey .. no fair...

but then.. she couldn't keep it off once her little chef took off on her own.. so.. did she win in the end.??

not to my mind...

I've watched one episode of Fat Losers... and it was enough.

In the compulsive eating world.. they don't have a clue.

I want to go back in 2 years and see how those people are...
clothes draped on the fitness equipment I'd bet a fiver.. ;o)

and a majority of the pounds back on...

it's just hype.

and another thing....

The makeover shows *LOL*

What happens with many of those kind of shows... they work on the outside and never look to help the inside of a person.
Years of name calling or low selfesteem doesn't go away in a flash for most.
People need to realize they are worth it. Dress or pant size does not make a person. The love that is in the heart is who each of us are.
Witha change of the outside, many times it may bring an attitude change from others... How do we deal with that? This is new to me? YIKES!
I had to learn (still learning) to do something as simple as...learn to say thank you.

You are both right really.

I think that Biggest Loser does focus on healthy eating to a big extreme.
It isn't fad dieting from what I see.

Yeah, Best I would like to see what happened to some of those Extreme Makeovers too!
You can change the outward appearance but if the inside is still "ugly"
what do you really have......

Wow, what a topic....one I am familiar with....lol

I don't watch most of those shows just for that reason that I feel it is all hype. I agree, no normal average person has the time or resources to do what they project on those shows to gain success in this "losing weight, looking great" game. Networks are all about ratings.....they show a miracle and lose the reality of underlying issues involved with weight gain and food addictions and everyday life....job, kids, husband/wife, extented family.

Best, You are so right about those makeovers.....I felt very emotional while reading your post...it hits home for me, alot. I think you know that already. I am also learning to simply say "Thank you" when some gives a compliment....but it is not easy. I still want to look behind me to see if someone else is there. Just recently a guy told me that he thought I was cute and had wanted to tell me that since he first met me (he is a friend of my neighbors that I met back in Nov.) I guess he is kind of shy also. lol
Anyway, I hestitated, but said "thank you" I know I have to work on that.

Yes, they focus on healthy eating....but as you pointed out in your first post, what adverage person, who works many hours a day at a job, comes home to children (or even those without children) and has a household to run, and some who are married have spouses to keep up with; who has the money or time for 24/7 exercise program w/personal trainer, and all the equipment.

I belong to a gym and go at least 5 times a week for an hour and a half workout....that's what I can manage within my schedule and I still have a long way to go before I am at my goal weight.

Good for you Pony, it's hard to make time for the gym with
a heavy schedule.
That is my whole point. These shows paint such a lovely picture.
They are playing with people that are really hurting over their
weight issues.
I watch the show all the time, it was last nights that got to me
for some reason.....
