Nuts...

I have eating problems.

I just can't seem to eat normaly. I never eat until 3-4pm, and then when I do eat, I get on weird kicks and ONLY eat a certain item.

For the last mont it's been diet Arizone green Tea and Trail mix. I'm not too worried about the ICE-T as it's diet, and I've heard good things about green tea (no caffine). The problem is the trail mix - it's peanuts, almonds, cashews, raisins and other dried fruits. I eat BAGS of it each week.

I know it's a relatively health snack - but can it be bad in excess? I've noticed I've been putting weight, despite the fact that I only eat trail mix. I know there is alot of fat in nuts, but my body just craves it 24-7. I have no desire to eat anything else.

Does ayone know if eating nuts in excess is quite bad for you?

I know I sound weird, but I have a problem.

Thanks: SS

Well I'm not positive but I think ANYTHING in excess is to much. Dried fruits have a lot of sugars and carbs. I am not an expert but it's my understanding that the nuts are good for you because they have healthy fat and protein. Of course when you eat to much of them and don't burn it off, you'll gain weight. That's with anything tho. I don't know I hope someone can give you better advice...take care

It isn't a problem, but not eating until 3-4pm is a problem. Your body will slow its metabolism to conserve. Even once you get adjusted to it....your metabolism will still be slower.

Thanks Dana and Ped,

I, like many addicts (I'm discovering) have an eating disorder that flares up and then cools down. Over the past 15years, I have had many periods of hard core binge and purge, but even when that sunsides I will stillo purge when I feel 'too full'

I'm still stuck on the nuts thing. Why is that the only food I will eat? Is my body craving it for the fat and protien? I know that often our bodies will 'tell us' what we need...Why doesn't my body tell me to mix it up a little? I mean, COME ON - the same food and beverage every day for months??? Why don't I get sick of it???

I have no desire to eat anything else and I CAN"T eat in the morning, it literally makes me feel sick. Breakfast is 1 cup of coffee and a gizillion smokes...If I'm up early, I'll get hungry around 2pm, eat some trail mix then go to work, and eat some more before bed.

I also have night time binges. I suppose it's cause I don't eat enough during the day and the fact that I'm an insomniac. I really like to eat healthy (apart from my fav candy bar - the magnificanetTake 5 bar), but I eat the healthy food in excess, especially at night (loast night I ate 2 whole bags of trail mix from midnight till 3am)

Sorry to babble, but since entering recovery, I'm finding the strength to reach out about many issues in my dysfunctional life...

I'm naturally slim, but have fallen to skeleton skinny several times when I was using heavily, and put on 20+ pounds at other times when I was drinking. Now I'm not doing either, and I guess I just don't know how to eat, or what my 'natural weight' is/

Anyhow, blah. Thanks for listening!

Love to you all: SS

hmmmmm

I've been sitting here trying to think about your issue but the FIRST thing that comes to mind is PLEASE DON'T PURGE!! That can become an addiction all on it's own and in turn can be possible FATAL!!
My thoughts are if you don't eat at night, you may be able to eat in the morning. In fact, it sounds like a vicious circle to me. You don't eat in the morning and therefore don't get enough nutrition during the day, so then you eat at night which then prevents you from being able to eat in the morning. See where I am getting with this? As for the food you are eating, I guess that shouldn't be a problem. I say work on the other two issues at hand and don't even worry about the trail mix.

Thanks Dana & welcome to SR!

I have read several of your posts and you are a real sweetheart!

I hope you're doing OK post-rehab...

Good advice, I know my eating all f'ed up. I know the purging is SOOO bad, taht's why I quit doing it on a regular basis. My teeth are bad as it is, and the purging does so much damage. It's still around a little, maybe once every 3-4 weeks.

I need to work on sleeping. I lie awake watching crime TV, munching away all night. AI guess it's part of recovery - learning to sleep without meds. My doc keeps pushing seroqel on me, and as much as I try to avoid it, it's tempting to take 1 at bedtime as it knocks my ass out. I can take 10 xanax and not sleep - but one little seroquel and boom!!!

BUT the goal is NO MEDS (apart from PAxil), and taking the seroqeul, despite what my doc says, is just subing 1 drug for another..

well, thanks for taking the time to read and reply!
Much Love: SS

Hey Thanks that was really sweet!!
YA I take Paxil and they got me on Seriquel also. Yes it knocks my a$$ OUT!! I take it though because I, personally, have to have a regular sleep routine or I will lose my mind very easily!! I am a mind racer at night, I swear my brain only works when the sun goes down. Guess that could be from all the years of drinking and drugging at all hours of the morning/night lol
Well thanks again for your kind words, I only hope that I have helped even just a sliver.
Take care!
