Hey guys~ I'm new here and am concerned I have been bulemic for about a year now and purging up to 7 times a day..just about 30 minutes ago I vomitted a moderate amount of blood..bright red..my stomach hurts like hell, which isn't really anything new..should I worry? I did call the MD on call and he stated I probably busted a vein in my throat and it will heal itself. I'm also pregnant 29 weeks along. Should I worry about this?? Thanks! Michelle

Michelle, Hello again and welcome (back) to SR!! Bulimia is a potentially deadly illness. It's how Terry Schiavo ended up the way she did. I think you should seek treatment immediately myself. For you and your baby! Renaissance Here is a link to the one treatment center I know anything about. Take care! Seriously! Love and hugs, Eddie

Please take it as a NEEDED wake up call. Here are some of the physical things that are happening to you: *The blood could be from a busted vein, ulcer (stomach or in the esophogus). *Vomitting that frequently not only will cause long term damage (to the esophogus, stomach lining, teeth enamel, long term malnutrition, vocal cords, etc), but also will cause short term problems (upset stomach, headaches, fainting, etc) I am not familiar with the complications of having a child, but I KNOW that if you keep doing this.....you WILL put your child at risk because it needs the proper nutrients to thrive. Purging is more than a caloric concern, but vomitting only removes 10% of your caloric intake through food, but it gets rid of more nutrients than that. PLEASE take some time to educate yourself becuase you now have someone else that is depending on you. If you can get a handle on your bulimia soon, you have a much better prognosis for recovery because treating bulimic patients with 1 or less years of active symptoms has a success rate mutliple times higher than treating long term patients. Take solice in knowing that bulimia is treatable, and MANY people have overcome it and taken control back of their lives and their food. -pedagogue

Michelle, I think, as a nurse, you know this COULD be serious. Because you are pregnant, you know this child needs extra nutrients and you are not only hurting yourself, you are potentially hurting this child. PLEASE--confide in someone and ask them to go with you to the doctor. This is serious, honey, and you are risking 2 lives. WE care. Please keep in touch!

Michelle, Just my opinion, but I feel that if it were me or say, my daughter, I would be going or taking her straight to the emergency room, no questions asked. You can't possibly know what is happening to you for sure unless you see a Dr. & they order some tests. I personally think that it's urgent that you get there immediately & I hope you are already there & will read this afterwards. Please let us know how you are doing with this. This is so serious. {{{Tender Hugs}}}
