PLEASE HELP ME!! My name is Marla and I am 32 years old. I have been diagnosed with Bulimia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, self-destructive behavior (cutting, burning), and have been in and out of the hospital for over 5 years (mostly in). Before this illness took over my life, I attended and graduated from Webster University with a B.A. degree in literature, writing and a minor in Women’s Studies. I did writing of short stories, poetry and plays. I worked as a waitress and bartender. I would like to get on with my life however it has been impossible under my current situation. There are programs which could help me such as The Menninger Clinic, Del Amo Hospital and McLean Hospital just to name a few. They do not accept insurance or Medicare. The word is cash only. The charges range from $15,000 to $20,000 a month. I do not have the means to pay for this help that I so desperately need to return to a healthy, constructive life. I want to get well more than anything in the world, but I can’t do it alone. I want to be able to write and publish again. I want to help others who need it. In the meantime, please help me get to that point in my life once again. My name is: Marla at P.O. Box 410333 Creve Coeur, MO 63141-0333 |

Marla - Let me welcome you to the forum. I applaud you for your bravery to come here and speak to openly about yourself and your situation. I do not have experience with the same issues that you, I have others. I would suggest that you open your phone book and look for Overeatters Annonymous. I know that is not your problem, but I am sure that they can help you find a group that supports people with issues such as yours. There are alot of good 12 steps group out there in the world. I not only have a food situation but I am a recovering addict who has been drug free for 7 years, thanks to a 12 step program. I tell you this only to show you that they work. www.NationalEatingDisorders.org - here also is a website that may help you. I am sorry that I don't have better advice for you - you keep coming back and posting, okay?

Marla, Welcome to this forum. Let me introduce myself....I am Pony and would be glad to give you an ear. I'm not real experienced on some of your issues but I am a good listener. I am here on this forum to deal with my own eating disorders and help (if I can) others to get through their's as well. We all here support one an other, though many of us have different issues to deal with. Also, I might add, in addition to contacting OA as Pauline mentioned.....try posting on some of our other forums here at this sight (if you already haven't). I'm sure there is someone out there who can share experiences with you form which you can gain support from. Keep posting here also. We can all learn and gain recovery through each other. Pony |

OK, I could be totally wrong, and I don't want to exclude anyone from getting help here, but when I read this post I heard someone asking for money, not help. In fact, I reported it and was very surprised that this post was not deleted. There aren't treatment centers who don't take insurance. It just isn't true. TX centers will take money wherever they can get it. My extreme apologies if I'm wrong. I do hope you get help, Marla, and I do believe there is great help to be had here. I also believe you got great advice above, and I hope you can use it. The help we have to offer each other here is much more valuable than money. |

Marla, I hope things work out for you. Why don't you call your insurance company and ask them if they can point you in the direction of someone that will accept your insurance. That is what happened when my hubby was seeking treatment for his problem. He was admitted in less than 12 hours. Give it a shot, it can't hurt. Take care. Hugs Debbie |
