Profile.......v

Ok, here's another one:

5. Caretakers have much difficulty remembering names, even a moment after an introduction. They are so preoccupied with their own self-consciousness ("How am I doing?") that they don't pay attention to others.

************************************************** **

This one was very interesting to me. I always had trouble remembering people's name's, but never understood why. Maybe this is why. I am pretty self-conscious especailly at gatherings.
Something for me to think about.

LOL - I do this all the time.

I know I do it, so I pay particular attention...and still do it. I must be really really bad. I went to introduce my boss to a sales rep at a meeting last week...and couldn't get out my boss's name LOL. Thank God she has a sense of humour...and this happens to her often too.

I am so glad to have a reason to consider now for doing this...all this time I thought I was losing my mind!!!!

Ditto on what what's her name said.

I'm not sure it's from looking to hard at myself. I thinks it's because I'm taking care of so many people that my brain can't hold more information.

I'm starting to forget family names.

Hugs,

MG

Hey MG I hear you with the family names. But with me, I get their names mixed up. When my older girls where younger I would call them by one or the other's name. I always attributed it to the fact that they were so close in age and most likely all doing the same thing anyway, so if I called one of them it would probably be that one, right? LOL How sad Or I would run through all the names before I got to hte right one of who I was yelling at. Bad Mom , lol What's worse is that I haven't changed. I not only mix up their names as I'm talking to them, but I do the same with my 5 yr. old (who is the only child living at home currantly). I always start to call her by her older sister's name and she's no where near their ages; so now what's my excuse????

What was really bad was calling my currant boyfriend by my ex-husband's name. Oh yeah!! that went over real big, if you know what I mean.

I just think it's because I have so much crammed into my mind that sometimes it just gets so jumbled when I'm excited or frazzled and it happens.

Maybe if I just give everybody just one name I'll get it right???? You think?

Oh that's funny Pony.

I think we all go through all the names before we get to the right one.

Do you ever dial the phone and then forget who you called by the time they answered. Your stuck after someone said hello and you have to say "Who did I call?"

Or have you ever taken a sip of coffee right before someone answered and realized you couldn't talk because your mouth was full of coffee and you started laughing so hard that you couldn't swallow and your only choice was to hang up the phone?

Maybe this is just old age.

Hugs,

MG

I walk into a room, maybe half way across my house...and when I get there I can't remember what I wanted. If there is someone in the room, I just fake it...pick up a book and leave LOL.

And I have a best friend (forget her name) and when we talk it goes something like "You'll never guess who I saw at the bank...it was..oh you know..green hat and pony tail" and I'll reply "Oh yeah I forgot all about her. Is she still married to...uh you know guy with tattoos"
"No, remember...she left him for..uh, you know, big guy..wart on his nose".

This drive our husbands NUTS. They have NO idea who we're talking about. But we understand each other perfectly.

LOLOL

This is so funny. I don't know if it's age or what. A bejangled mind maybe!!

I have received phone calls (especially from my kids) and not recognised who it is, but all the time knowing that I should know who I'm talking with. Only to find out that it's one of the kids or a really close friend that I talk to all the time. I think sometimes that I am really losing it upstairs (in my head).

Many of you know that I'm a school bus driver; well, try going down the road and forget exactly where you're going and miss a turn, with kids on board. Or to be coming back from a field trip and forget which school you have on the bus---to not know which school you have to drop them at. That's embarressing.

I always wonder where is my mind then...............

I do that too Ann except I stand there yelling "What did I come in here for"

Ok what about this one. You are sitting on the floor writing or cutting something with scissors and all of the sudden you can't find the pen or you can't find the scissors. You know you haven't moved, but they've just disappeared. I hate it when that happens too.

Hugs,
MG

Pony - if I was driving a bus load of kids, I would go crazy too.

And MG, that one cracks me up. It probably would take me a week to find the pen and scissors in the first place.

LOL:shades2:

How can we ever find our glasses when we CAN"T SEE?

They should put ringers in them, like they do in portable phones, so when we can't find them, we can call them and follow the noise. Can you just picture it...I can't find my glasses..hand me the phone?

LOL I thought of another one.

I spend a whole day, trotting all over the city, and didn't notice until I was almost home that I had one grey shoe and one black shoe on...and they weren't even close. One had a small heel and one was flat LOL. I just hopped into two shoes at my door and kept going. I guess I never looked down. You'd think I would walk lopsided ot something.

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!

I thought I was the only one who did those things. Isn't it funny how alike we all are. At my job (yeah Ihave not found a replacement yet, but I have 4 interviews next week so keep your fingers crossed for me). I have an office upstairs where we run the pool construction business out of and there is a retail store downstairs where we sell spas. Anyway, I have had to start making a pile in the middle of the floor I mean the middle of the floor so when I go downstairs I take things that need to go. Now my boss is used to just stepping over it when he comes up to talk to me.

My mother was looking right at a picture of me and Ward....I mean it was in her HAND. And she said..."She looks familiar....do know her?"

I said "Mom...it's me!"

And we wonder why I have self esteem issues! LOL!!

So I think I come by it honestly! The funny thing about walking into a room and forgetting why I went is that if I turn around and go back to the starting point I remember...every time!

I forget events like birthday parties and such..I have done it enough that people just KNOW why we are not there. And I have it written on the calender at home, at work and in my daytimer. I forget to look at them.

So Sad!

I just looked through my mother's photo album and there is a picture of me where she took a black pen and drew in eye brows and eye lashes.

And they wonder why I don't want my picture taken.

LOL LOL

I'm laughing so hard I hurt.

I remember one year I was really pissed off that my husband and son both forgot my birthday. I said nothing, and steamed all day at how selfish and thoughtless they were. No phone calls from my friends or family, nothing.

So I bought myself flowers and took them home and when my husband asked me why, I told him. He replied "But your birthday is tomorrow!" ...and he was right.

I must admit, Ann, that does take the cake!!

I remember birthdays, mostly. But I must admit there is one that always foget. I have a friend who really is like a big sister to me. our families have been intertwined for years. We've both been throught alot together with our families, kids, ex-'s and such. I will not find a better or more loyal person who is not judgemental to me or about my kids anywhere, and I consistantly forget the date of her birthday. I remember when the month comes, but hte day comes and goes with my head in the clouds. She never gets mad, but I do. I'm more upset about it then she is, but still; She always remembers mine. I mean what kind of person does that make me. Every year I try not to let it go by, but I fail miserablely. Luckily she is a really great person and forgives me my failings.

As for not finding things; I am famous for puttng things away so they don't get lost and then not being able to find them again. Yes, they are safe........safe from me!!

Okay I Ann - you win that is the best!!!

I am really good at remembering birthdays. but I never remember where I put anything, I mean anything. I took Gingkoba for a while, or I should say I attempted to take it, but I kept forgetting. Paul would tease me so bad about forgetting to take them, it was hillarious. So I gave up. We just know in my house that I remember nothing.

But I did learn in my class the other night that the norm is to forget 50% of what someone is saying to you by the time they finish talking. So that made me feel a little better about certain things, but not about forgetting why I walked into a room or where I put something.
