Water! Water! Water!

Hi everyone,
Here's something that has helped me-that direction (not suggestion) to drink lots of water. I found that what works is those small 8 oz bottles. I can get one of those down much easier that the 16 oz or larger size. And so I drink more.
I'm sober 18 years (Jan 1 and I will make it) and in 99 had to come to terms with my bulimia. That year, after about 6 years of not being very active, I went down to 92 pounds and was slowing committing suicide. I had to work the steps on this as I do my alcoholism. Today I am 18 lbs heavier than is good for me. I lost 6 in September, and have gained 5 of them back since Thanksgiving.
So I'm here on the boards for support and encouragement, and to give back the same. Today I am shopping and tomorrow will start again on Weight Watchers program.
Happy New Year to all,
Janet

That is a great water idea !!! I use a water bottle that I refill all day long.

The Weight Watcher program is a very good healthy program to follow. Whether losing or trying to gain & maintain....that is a great program.

Looking forward to getting to know you!

Smile Water! Water! Water!

Hi Pony,
Thanks for the welcome.
I did well today by eating mostly fruit and fat free saltines. The saltines have salt, so I knew that would make me drink more.
Whenever I start to eat more healthy, I find that I tire earlier, so tonight I will be turning in early-that is if the cats don't fight. I brought home a year old male and have a 15 year old Main Coon. The little one tried so hard to make friends, and made it clear that it recognized the other's dominance, but the old boy is a bit standoffish.
Two other women at work said they will start their diets after the New Year. There's another who has lost 20 lbs on the Weight Watchers program, and she and I are the ones who talk about eating healthier, not dieting. And we don't pour a beer or glass of wine the minute we get home.
I hope this board is active. I'm going to start posting things that inspire me to do the next right thing.

Please do post things that inspire you.....everything that inspires you. That how this board will become active. People have been coming and going through here.....but we have some that remain....the only way is to have people, like you, who stay and share all experiences with us. I hope you do stay...I get lonely talking to myself in here!!

I agree with the healthier eating idea. I do not like the word "diet". To me that is a nasty word. Everything you eat.....anything you eat...is a diet. It's rather a matter of if you choices of food are healthy ones or not. Healthy eating...regular exercise, is all a part of healthy living. It is lifestyle change, not just a for the moment quick loss program, that's going to make you healthy and keep you healthy.

And....lots....and .. lots....of water!!!! lol

Water!!

Pony, Maybe we could become known as the Waterbabies?

I think that I am really learning that we can achieve greater success by mixing the spiritual aspects of life with the physical and emotional challenges of living a healthy lifestyle one day at a time. I need more than information to keep on a healthy path;I need daily inspiration and help and a Power greater than myself.

The 12 steps have taught me to live on principles. This was something I could not do without help. I had high, lofty ideals. And somehow always fell short. Now that I have been sober for a while, some areas of my life are settled, and I just move along without much concern or worry. (Ok, it's true that I can count these areas on one hand). Other areas, especially eating and my relationship to food, are very troublesome. I'm tired of all the negative thinking in my head each time I take a bite.

It's great getting to know you.

Janet, It's great getting to you also. Yes, I can relate to what you are saying. It is more of a challange to deal with my food issues then it was for me to get sober. I fully believe that is due to the fact that we cannot do without food. In getting and staying sober and frug free, you don't use.....but with food, you need it to survive. It's all around you. You have to eat. It's the choices we make on a daily basis that either bring us to healthy living or unhealthy living. Weight gain or weight loss (depending on what your food issues are) are all a result of the choices we make. Listening to the postives is what gets us through those choices and past the committee that meets within us to tell us that we can't do it.

I do believe that the 12-steps and a great support system are so very important to our recovery. Glad to have you here!!!

Waterbabies...LOL...that is funny. I have been known to push the water around here...lol !! It's much harder in the winter to get it in, but I am making the effort.

Hi guys!

I'm Jen and I've been sober for 13 1/2 years. I too have issues with "to eat or not to eat, that is the question..". I struggled quite a bit with a lot of "issues" the past several months. October and November lost 40 pounds, because I didn't feel "worthy" of eating. Well, after doing a 4th step and a couple of 5th steps (one with each of my sponsors), the issues are more manageable, and my eating has gone back to more "normal". Now I feel bloated and have put 5ish pounds on, I've been trying not to weigh myself, because then I get obsessed with "the scale". Rather, I've been trying to go with how my clothes fit. My mom gave me 3 pair of new jeans for Christmas (3 sizes smaller!) and I'm enjoying them, because they actually FIT! I am back to my "normal weight". Only took 2 1/2 years and a lot of pain to get my last baby's weight off. Eating healthier too. (Though I've been sneaking in some of the Christmas fudge in!). Well wishes to you both. Early congrats on your anniversary, Janet, one day at a time, I'm sure you'll get it!!!

Love,
Jen
