Hi my name is Lin. I gave up alcohol 8 months ago. I was looking forward to loosing weght. Since I quit I have this craving for icecream. every night we have it.somenight i have 2 servings. I do not know if its a compulsive thing I am substituting icecream for drinking. I have gained weight. I know my diet is not good cause I skip meals and just eat junk. Is this normal?

Lin,

Well, all I can say is that I have heard and seen and experienced the very same thing. I do believe that it is normal. Substituting one substance with another is very common....alcohol turns to sugar in the system...so you are feeding that lack of sugar in your system. Everytime my SO is on a non drinking timeout....he eats ice cream like crazy. It's hard for me to keep it in the freezer he goes through it so fast, but not when he is drinking. He also downs lots of candy during that time. I remember kind of doing the same thing when I quit.....but I turned my cravings and addiction to foods and overeating rather than just one type of food.

Stick around and join us.....there's lots more stories.

Welcome Lin. Ice cream in the summer is one temptation that I often give in to (I like to call it an "allowed treat" LOL), and quite by accident I discovered that there are very tasty sugerfree ice creams out there.

I live by the beach and was buying a cone with my mother-in-law and the "Cherry Cheesecake" flavour caught my eye so I ordered it. It was while I was waiting that I saw on the sign for it that it was sugarfree. BONUS!!!

I do low carb, and the Atkins Advantage cholocate bars are wonderful and fit my plan.

Just check around, check labels and you will see that you can often eat those things you crave, if you can find the ones that work with your plan.

Hugs
Ann
