8 days clean/sober and just purged

I have not had an active ED for 16 years. I am 8 days clean from a 7 month bout with vicodin and am sober 10 days from being a huge weekend binge drinker. Anyway, craving pills like crazy today, and when I just ate a pb&j for lunch I finished off the pb and purged. I don't want this. I don't want to trade pills for purging. Going to a mtg tonight. I really need it.

Are you able to appreciate that 8 days sober is an accomplishment from the drugs?

Sometimes we get so caught up in all that we are doing wrong that we forget what we are doing right.

I can't imagine what it is like to be balancing two struggles at the same time, it would be hard to know where to direct your energy.

What kind of support are you receiving?

I see a therapist weekly and I've gone to some AA meetings, and 12 step recovery can apply to eating disorders as well, I think. It's easy to avoid the drugs (bc I can't get anymore) and I don't crave alcohol unless we are at a social event, but the ED- it's a sneaky thing and I figure if I'm purging and failing in that manner I may as well use again.

I have used my ed as an excuse for picking up. It was no more than an (deadly) substitute. I needed to find a positive, healthy substitute. I have a program that can be used for any addiction in the 12 steps. I use other tools as well. Counseling and seeking out these types of forums. I compose a gratitude list in my head before getting out of bed. I am not where I want to be but thank goodness I am not where I used to be.

I am finding 12 step work a great supplement to my recovery. I did not use it initially to work on my eating disorder.

Counseling for me was really important for me too.

My addiction did not start overnight and my recovery did not happen overnight.

Thank you for your last sentence. I have been carrying these addictions to various degrees for 23 years. I guess I should expect it to take longer than 8 days to recover
