Hello everyone... I found sober/recovery looking for something about nar-anon. I recently found out (less than 4 wks ago) that my 22 year old son is an addict. He lives with us. I am trying to deal with that info, but the way I have learned to deal with stress is TO EAT! So needless to say my eating the last 4 weeks has been OUT OF CONTROL!!! So much so that my co-workers have been mentioning my sudden weight gain, someone even asked me if I was pregnant...I am almost 50 years old! My eating while I'm at work and occupied is in control. It is at night that I lose control. There is nothing that I have found that occupies me enough to not eat. The other thing I have to do is stop looking in my son's room to find out what "stuff" he has in there. When I find it... I go right to the food! I went to one OA meeting, I will go to another next week. Any suggestions??? Thanks!

| I got nothin' |
Hey, llm. I wish I had some suggestions...I'm having trouble with food. I love to eat. Here are the classics for when you get an urge: go for a walk. journal. call a friend. I ignore those much of the time...that's why I fail. I'm not ready to "quit" yet.

| Grateful but still smarting |
I have addictive eating issues as well...I used to compulsively overeat, binge, etc. I've been dancing with anorexia lately, two sides of the same coin, using a natural urge to deal with my own panic and lack of control. I need a program to address the underlying causes, just like my other addictions. I am in recovery, and am interested in working here to support others who are addressing eating addictions of any kind. I have found that just not turning to food on any given instance is not enough, I really need to address the issues so that real healing can take place. I do a great deal of journaling working toward uncovering my own issues. It's helping a lot. I don't have a sponsor right now, a pen and spiral notebook serve as my sponsor and therapist. |

| AWOL :) |
Try going to OA.org and click on the phone list. Then try the OA phone list where meetings are listed as 90 meetings. They work! I logged on to them and started listening in on Aug 1 2009 and I am now down 35.5 lbs! I got on a food plan and have NEVER felt better in my life.
