| ED treatment?
I have a problem with compulsive eating which has gotten much better over the years but I still struggle with it. Over the past three years, I've read books about intuitive eating (Geneen Roth, Karen Koenig, Susan Hirschmann), which makes so much sense to me. I am at the point now where if I listen to what my body wants, it's usually something healthy (what I would have considered before as diet food). I'm also finding that I feel best when I eat three meals a day. Less obssessive, etc. I just finished reading Jenni Schaeffer's book "Life Without Ed" and somewhere in the book she talks about having three meals a day as part of her recovery plan. I've never been officially treated for an eating disorder and wanted to ask if anyone out here eats three meals a day and has experienced significant recovery from their eating disorder or just what they've found and if this is a good track to take? I don't think diets work. I'm also 2.5 yrs sober from alcohol. thanks. CC |

I consider myself in recovery from an ED, actually several branches. I find that I do much better with three meals and one snack. I also monitor what I eat. It's much easier to manage when I eat healthfully and avoid my personal triggers. Actually, for me the what I eat is more important than a particular regiment of when I eat it. Both are important however. I'm a big proponent of a low/healthy carb diet. Once I kicked those low-value carby things to the curb, things got easier to manage over longer periods of time on a real, identifiable diet of food. |

Roxiestone, thanks. How about sugar/dessert? Do you eat that and if so, how often works/doesn't work for you? I used to have the worst time with sugar but now I can have chocolate in the house and it not phase me. Have fear around cutting something out completely because it might feel like a diet. CC |

I don't do sugar. I pretty much leave desserts alone as they are mostly baked goods. You see me posting in the avoiding Obvious Sweets thread, which I use to track my healthful eating days. For me, my eating choices no longer feel like a diet because I'm not really restrictive on the amount I eat. I find that I'm satisfied with a "normal" amount under most situations. What I lack is the ability to moderate some foods, so I tend to avoid them unless it's in a controlled situation. |
