| nutritionistist's advise???
I've been to a dietitian on the advice of my doc. I've been fighting off diabeties - successfully so far - for a few years now. But, it's time to stop playing games and get rid of this excess weight once and for all. So, I'm keeping a food and exercise journal. And I'm wearing a pedometer all day to track the number of steps I take each day. The goal is a minimum of 10,000 steps. The nutritionist wants me to eat every 2-3 hours to keep my metabolism going. She swears I'm going to loose weight this way. I have to eat protein every time I eat - 15-20 grams. (what's a gram?) I have to have snacks between lunch and dinner - protein of course. And she wants me to walk 6-7 days a week for exercise. Also, she wants me to be on the lookout for High Fructose Corn Syrup and Trans-Fats on any labels of foods that I eat. I am not supposed to eat them. Evidently, these foods "fool" the hormone leptin, in our bodies, into storing fat, (especially around the middle), and also don't allow us to recognize when we are full, so that's why we tend to overeat. So, those are the three duties I have had to do this week for her. Not bad. I've been very good on the food and exercise journal. It's been an eye opener, really. I eat much better than I though! ANd my calorie intake is not that bad! But, for now, anyway, I'm not drinking near anything, (I mean like alcohol), 1. because my stomach is a mess and 2. because I'm trying to loose weight. But, I've only lost one pound! This is in 5 days! And I *know* it's because of all this damn eating she's requiring! I *never* eat all these stupid snacks! And I *told* her I was going to gain weight doing this. The string cheese has 90 calories; the protein drinks has 180!!! And she *recommended* them! This is junk I would never have eaten! That's 270 calories a day I wouldn't have had! And the protein drink also has fructose! I don't know if that's the *exact* same thing but, it's too close for my comfort! Anyway, I see her on Wednesday, and she'll see my journal. I'm looking forward to what she has to say. My calorie intake is good; my exercise is fair to good, and sometimes just great! (Today was hot as hades; and I was running around doing errands all day, so didn't get too much in the way of exercise done but some gardening.) So, I look forward to what she has to say. Cuz, I know those "extras" are on the way OUT! Anyway, the purpose of this thread was to share my experience and also to let you all know of a site I found that's very VERY helpful in keeping track of our food and exercise on a daily basis. It also breaks down the nutritional analysis of MANY foods and has a place for us to put in our own stuff too that they don't have. The site is Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program It's a free service, and it's awesome! I hope this posts, cuz, I can't seem to post on another forum.... Shalom!

Hey, long time no see, Barb!!! ![]() I am going along with what she said, because I had to show her that it's not going to work for me. She told me that doing all this eating is going to speed up my metabolism. LOL! I told her it's going to make me gain weight. And if I was having any drinks at all, I *would* be gaining! Geeze Louise! You don't *add* calories when you want to loose weight. It's simple; calories in; calories out. Even *I* know that much! Hope you are well. Good to see you! Shalom!

Hi, Pony, No, I'm not on WW. I can't follow all those points and such. It's too much to count and follow. Too complicated. I really need simplicity, especially when school is on. Cuz, I don't have any time to think about food when school is going. (Which is exactly the problem!) Barb, I remember that issue with the thyroid! LOL! Shalom!

Hi, I agree with the nutritionist, eating 6 times a day keeps your metabolism going. I do not necessarily eat protein at each time, sometimes I eat only fruit, but I eat a lot of plain non-fat yogurt that I make myself mixed with fruits, no added sugar, nor artificial sweeteners. Make your meals small also. I'm between 15 and 20 pounds overweight, and I will most likely stay that way, it doesn't bother me anymore, but I get in as much exercise as I can fit in my day, and it really makes me feel good too. I've been working on eliminating obvious sweets and artificial sweetners from my diet completely as with most transformed foods. I try to eat only whole grains, and eat less and less meat. I drink up to 6 liters of water, herb teas, and such. I did weight watchers for a while, it really helped me to condition my eating, then I decided to work on being healthy. That's why I'm into all the meals, whole grains and making my own yogurt and tranforming my own food! It has made a big difference ! |
