Fat as a damn pig

I can barely stand to look at myself in the mirror. I've become so fat I can barely move. I'm about 100 lbs overweight. How in the hell could I allow this to happen? I'm an emotional eater and I'm also an emotional opiate user. What a damn mess I've made of my life. I need help but I don't know where to begin.

Hi Daisy, I don't normally post here and I don't have much experience with eating disorders, but I wanted to welcome you to SR. Have you checked out an OA meeting yet? https://www.oa.org/

I was bulemic in my teens, now in my 40's I put on some weight a few years back when I sobered up. Since the beginning of this year I've had some success with Weight Watchers, I feel like I'm back to the old me (without the alcohol) so I guess this is the new improved me.

I wish you the best, and look forward to hearing more from you here.

Hello, AfricanDaisy. Welcome to SR!

I'm very overweight. I'm trying my best to watch what I eat. I blew it today.

I go for walks when I can and try to avoid junk food (I love chocolate).

Hang in there and keep posting. Start out with the small things that you can control. Incorporate healthier foods into your diet slowly. That's what I'm doing right now. If I cut out everything at once I'll eventually binge like crazy.

Take it easy.

Have you checked out your local ymca? they have some good starter programs this summer. They also have reduced rates and endless activities. Exercise has been proven to help addicts recover. I know it's helped me in many area's of my life.

I've been unemployed for a long time so there's no money to join anything like the YMCA. I also have some physical limitations that narcotic meds were perscribed for that prevent me from even walking down the block at the moment. Am struggling with narcotic pain med addiction too and on a taper program at the moment. It's funny, the further along I get on the narcotic taper the better my pain gets that I'm taking the narcotics for. How weird is that?

Daisy, welcome to SR and this forum. Sorry I haven't been around much, as I have been sick and busy at work, that I have just read your post here.

I get what you are saying about limitations, physical and financial. I have been there and still there. I am grossly overweight with asthma and not much money to spend on fancy trainers at the gym.

I have belonged to a gym, but it is one of the least expensive ones here in my town. I used to go and work out and ask the trainers lots of questions on how it all works around there and they would help me....mostly out of kindness because I was actually there doing something for myself. But before I joined there, I used to do what I could around my home.....like push-ups fromt he kitchen counter, dancing to my favorite music for cardio, and lie in bed and do what leg lifts I could do. Anything to use muscle and raise the heart rate to burn calories.

Next was food plan. I had to make better choices in what and how much I ate.

Now, it all was working when I was working it, but I got off track...... but I am now getting myself back on track and giving it a go.
