Guys I went to a bar tonight for a bachelorette party - my first time in a bar since getting sober. My friend, the bride-to-be is also a recovering alkie so I went to support her. My dilemma? I had a Red Bull and they have sugar in them. I wanted a diet one but they didn't sell them. I could have ordered a tonic water but I went with the RB - do I need to change my date for this thread? I don't see it as candy or sweets - in fact, it was my first-ever RB - but I don't know if this counts as OS. I would appreciate any direction. Thanks.

I had a similar dilemma last year when I attended my brother's stag night and Wedding. I drank diet cokes but also chucked in a few Red Bulls as no diet ones were available. I decided that even though I didn't drink sugary drinks normally, this was an exception and my main priority was to not touch alcohol. I think it is entirery down to how you see it yourself Rowan. Sometimes it can have a negative effect and may lead one to think "Blown it today, do what I like now until tomorrow." I see it as something that is on the list of things that should be avoided but not my "A" list of OS, but we make our own rules as to what we, individually can and can't have. After all that waffle I went and blew it yesterday, and with the family away I threw in a pizza as well. I have atoned for that with an 11 mile run this morning, but when will I learn-working on 1 again today, best wishes everyone.

Good Morning guys! Rowan, I totally agree with what Dave said. For me, if I come across something like that for a specific reason it's fine but if I find myself abusing it, it's not ok. Like last year for example-once in a while would have a particular cereal bar, they seemed relatively harmless and for a while, I was able to have maybe one a week. There did come a time when I crossed the line with them, now they are on my "list" Have a good day everyone!

I am with the others Rowan. I think drinking Red Bull is punishment enough. I am still on the straight and narrow for another day. Have a good one one and all.

Things are still going well, no sugars for me thank-you. I'm really surprised, but quite satisfied! Almost a week without sugar, and I thought it couldn't be done without taping my hands behind my back and sewing my mouth closed. I agree with the others, I think an obvious sweet is something that would intice you to eat or drink more. Hey Bam, join in...the more the merrier ! Have a great day ALL and keep at it! |

Welcome Bamboozle...It's good to see your post. I hope you find what you need to be healthier. My wife is out of town this weekend, and I went out tom-catting, after my Friday night AA meeting, by myself. Got in at ~3AM. I listened to a lot of good music and laughed and danced a lot. No harm...no boundaries crossed...no booze...no OS's...but I was wreck yesterday anyway. I missed updating the list. This tom cat wanted to go out again last night...but folded before leaving and got 12 hours sleep instead. Here I am. I really appeciated the comments on the list. I think I know what to do now. By the way, I'll be gone 4/24-4/28. On the RB, I'm with others that it's no big deal, just something to be avoided in the future. The good work is in mentioning it...often I haven't...and then I cave in latter because I haven't been honest with myself and others. Good work on the repentence, Dave, and getting 11 miles in...it's a character builder. Thank you everyone for your input, I appreciate it. The Red Bull wasn't THAT bad - but being in a bar WAS. Well done on the penance Dave - 11 miles, wow. I'm just beginning to get back into running. But first - to treat this emotional hangover. Have a great, OS-free day everybody. Hugs.

Oh good smilingjack, it looks like your time off will coincide with mine, I'll be gone on April 24 and back on the 29th of April. I'll be going to visit my kids and grandkids, there's a 2 week Spring break for the schoolkids, sooo. Hopefully no one will fool me into eating any sweets.

Yeah I agree Ro, no biggie on the Red Bull. I almost ate some Honey Nut Cheerios this morning, thinking it would be a healthy whole grain breakfast. Then I looked at the ingrediants, sugar was the second one so I grabbed another cereal. Lesson learned, move on. I'm doing well this weekend, broke through another weight barrier and I weighed in below 170 this morning. Haven't been at that point since just before my sobriety date. I've decided to take it down to 165, then try to maintain the weight and build muscle. Still OS free, and thank you all for your honesty.

I've got a hurdle coming up tomorrow night - I am going to my niece's 14th birthday dinner. I plan on bringing a healthy salad with me - and I better bring something sugar-free to eat while everyone else eats cake. I love birthday cake. Like, I love love love it. I'll plan ahead though, and I'm sure I won't break down. I've lost nearly 5 pounds in a week alone through cutting out sugars, moderate exercising, and cutting out most carbs. I don't crave sugar at all right now which is a blessing.

This is still working for me, but last night I began craving sweets, I sort of stuffed myself with nonfat yogurt and herbal tea and went to bed with a bloated tummy, but what do you do when you get cravings for sugar?

Good question, Poppy.... Sometimes I can avoid my cravings by looking away at OS sightings...if I see cookies at an office reception...I just must look away. Sometimes my cravings bring me into the kitchen on a search and self-destroy mission...so I try to stay out of the kitchen. Sometimes just a lot of fruit keeps the cravings away. At times, my self-control and determination have been enough for some continuous abstinance...but over the last year or so, it is off and on...and I have to accept that...and realize that that is exactly where I am supposed to be. Take care all...I am grateful for this day. Happy Monday, all. I'm still hanging in there. I am also so excited to have so much activity on this board. It's encouraging and enlightening. I am grateful to have a place to come where people understand about the food stuff. Today I will provide good self-care by getting in some exercise at lunch time. I've already planned and packed my food for the day. I accept that other people may not have to do those types of things, but for me to stay healthy, I most do what I must do. I can choose to be resentful or I can choose to be grateful that I have found something that helps/works. May we all live in peace. |

Here I am much to my own amazement; I clicked on this thread and am going to post! I didn't think I could start it, but I can say I was OS-free all day yesterday, from morning to night, not a single slip. Yep, I did it. Thanks to all, Nea |

Great Job Nea-welcome!! I am back to work this week after being off. I have been eating SO well, and am so grateful for everyone sharing and participating. I have to work on holding my head high and not being so concerned with what others (in my face to face world) are doing and thinking. Have a great day all!

Welcome to OS Nea. ![]() I am back to the gym today and planning on keeping it up until my holiday at the end of May. After all that work at the gym today and the pain I will feel tomorrow and the rest of the week sweets are the farthest thing from my mind.

Welcome Nea! I'm so glad to have the support that's on this thread - and grateful to all of you for sharing your progress with such honesty. After my niece's birthday dinner, I will have a piece of sugar-free cheesecake that a gf made for me - wasn't that nice of her? She knows how hard I am working and knows I love her cheesecake! I hope everyone has a successful day. Hugs.

I love reading everyone's posts, so good to hear that you're all doing well. Ro, the cheesecake sounds yummy, I might have to check out my WW cookbook for other ideas. At this time I'm doing OK and not having any major cravings so I'm trying to avoid the triggers too, but it's good to remember that there are sugar-free treats available.

Welcome Bamboozle and Neagrm, strength in numbers can only be for the good. Glad you had such a productive weekend Cathy and are in such a positive frame of mind. Well done to everyone else as well, and thank's Jack for all your efforts. Well just in from work and with a sunny day ahead and a few hours free I was planning to either get out on the bike or go for a run. It has been a pretty tiring past couple of days, so I might get a bit of sleep instead and then get my boy from school.
