New here - self evaluation time!

Hello! I have been reading some of your posts about food addiction. Obviously, I think I have a problem or I wouldn't be here, right?

Here is my dilemma. I eat when I'm depressed or stressed and I binge eat at times when I am frustrated. I need to lose about 30 pounds but honestly, I'm amazed that I don't have 100 pounds to lose with the way I eat when I have problems.

So I can say I have an eating disorder or I have an addictive personality but I joined a health club and can't seem to get there . . . why don't I get addicted to working out? Maybe I'm just lazy and love food!

So I guess my main question would be . . . why is it that people with "addictive personalities" rarely get addicted to anything that is good for them? hahaha

Welcome to SR and the ED forum, DaiseyMae!

William Glasser has a book called, Positive Addiction. It's been out for years, but, you can probably still find it on Amazon.com or elsewhere.

Anyway, no one becomes addicted the first time they try something. They go back, and back, and before you know it, you're addicted.

The same is true with exercise. Indeed, when I quit smoking, the counselor said to join a gym was a great substitute. But, he said it would take like 30 (?) days for it to become a habbit - to the point where I would plan my day around exercising. Before that time, I would have to *make* myself go. And he was right.

So, if you want to develop a *positive* addiction, you have to put that effort into it. Later on, it will be rewarding. And you'll be happy you did.

Shalom!

Sorry to be a bit late Daisy and welcome.
I joined a health club a few years ago but felt a bit put off because some of the people were totally addicted. Thats my excuse, but maybe i'm just lazy and like food too much as well.
