I need to help my 12 yr old grandson

My 12 yr old grandson is 5ft 6, weighs 180. He is extremely inactive. He doesn't like sports, not even to watch. He doesn't like alot of foods.
I would like to get him exercising but I am affraid to force him and then he'll hate it and never want to.

any suggestions on some kind of activity to get him going,
ps he won't even learn to ride a bike, he refuses, says he'll fall and get hurt.

Is he a social phobic?
Does he play with other kids, for example, or does he isolate with his tv, stereo and games?
He may have other problems to concern yourself with first. Activities will come after, *if* that's the case....

Just my humble thoughts....

Shalom!

He tries to be friendly. He will "forcefully" join the other kids. But his weight has him what I think is socially stumped. He doesn't usually like what other kids like. he is a tvaholic and I hate to take it away from him for his own good, it's one of the enjoyments in life he has. He gets teased all the time. He is not a fighter so when a kid starts picking on him he just walks away and i think it makes other kids know he will take it so they pick. I really want to tell him to punch the crap outta some of these kids.

Would it make any difference if a doctor or someone else he is close to had a chat to him? I'm sure they'll say exactly the same thing but hearing it from someone different may help

Hi Rahsue and Welcome. I just wondered if you'd maybe suggested taking him swimming. There are heated pools at the gyms, in the winter, besides the outdoor pools in the summer and I don't know of many kids who don't like swimming. That would be a great exercise while having lots of fun and not even realizing it's exercise. Just a thought. Keep coming back here. (((((((((((Caring Hugs))))))))))))))

thanks all for the feedback, My daughter is having my grandson checked for alsburger syndrome (sp) a mild form of autism, it makes perfect sense and she said the symptoms are my grandson to a "T" so she's trying to find a doctor to check and diagnose. of course these doctors are a 16 month wait so she is going another route for a psychologist or whatever I get so confused with the psycho doctors titles.
but anyway thank you for all you concern and links.

It's called asperger's syndrome and it's a mild form of autism along with problems with high levels of anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit disorder, and social phobias; hence the problem with compulsive eating (or obsessive hand washing and germ phobias) and avoiding social situations.

People with asperger's syndrome often talk in a strange, monotone voice, tend to repeat the same phrases over and over again, have trouble controlling their temper and often have angry outbursts that last for hours, as well as difficulty in school and difficulty in completing complex tasks.

Asperger's syndrome is difficult to diagnose and often overlooked. Medications to control anxiety and lesson the symptoms of OCD/ADD are typically prescribed.
