((Trish)) I need to lose weight, too. I think that you probably don't eat enough. I had a friend, who ate something every 2 hours...not ALWAYS something healthy, but most of the time it was...maybe some fruit, small salad, granola bar, etc. She never had a problem with weight. It's a proven fact that when we eat several small meals a day, instead of 2-3, your metabolism is sped up. That's a big part of my problem. I work nights, sleep during the day, so the only time I eat is at work. I can go a whole day and all I will eat is a cup of chili...but I don't lose weight. Guess it's time to put what I know into practice, huh? What sugarsweetpea said, is also right on....when we exercise our muscles, they speed the metabolism up. Hugs and prayers! Amy

I have been told that 3 hrs is a good period of time between food. If you eat less at a time, your body will digest it better than putting a whole bunch in there at one time. The strength I have gained in the last 7 weeks is amazing as well. When I started the program I am on, I could not do a pushup on my knees. Today I did 10. Amazing. My joints no longer hurt. I no longer have to take tylenol or aspirin every night to fall asleep. I can stretch my muscles & go to sleep without them cramping as well. The thing I have to work on is staying completely away from the sugar except for one time a week. I really struggle with that one.

This could be a blessing in disguise. The various surgeries should really be a last choice option, as the long-term side effects can be pretty crummy (ulcers, 'dumping'/vomiting, nutritional deficiencies and related problems like osteopenia/osteoporosis, iron deficiencies, etc). Becoming more knowledgeable about nutrition (and working with a nutritionist), as well as trying to stay active. Walking every day (set times/levels) and doing other activities can make a big difference. Gyms can be helpful, though may be expensive...especially starting out. Be careful of fad diets, as 95% of diets fail. (Barbara Cohen, Ph.D., "The Psychology of Ideal Body Image as an Oppressive Force in the Lives of Women," 1984). What works.....old fashioned proper nutrition + regular exercise. A lifestyle change is needed, not a diet. I hope you can find something that works for you. Best of luck.

I just bought a book called Love Hunger by Dr Frank Minirth, Dr Paul Meier, Dr Robert Hemfelt, Dr Sharon Sneed & Dr Don Hawkins. It deals with overeating & the reasons why we do it. I just bought it tonight, so I am not very far into it, but so far it is good. I also got the Love Hunger weight loss workbook. It is a 12 week life plan for the body, mind & spirit. I am going to start that when I finish the book. I will let you guys know how it goes. I have been feeling really frustrated lately b/c nothing works. I have quit alcohol, drugs, smoking. I can now limit my caffeine to every once in awhile if I really need it that day. But I cannot control what I eat. Or how often. Or how much. No matter how I try, I just cannot surrender this addiction to food to God. I cannot seem to give it up. I need to get to the roots of it so I can surrender it once & for all & have the freedom in Jesus that I am meant to have.

| Just my 2 cents...
In June, I will have been post-gastric by-pass for 12 years. It worked for me--maybe even TOO much as far as the weight loss goes--my blood pressure problems and borderline diabetes went away, but the surgery also opened up a whole new can 'o worms, too. Because my particular doctor did not require a psychological evaluation, I had no idea that some 5 years after my surgery that I would be a member of AA. I traded my food addiction for an addiction to alcohol, and my life has been in an uproar ever since. I have been in treatment centers 4 times, and each time, I have been surrounded by women( and even one man that I know of) that have been suffering through the same hell. With AA sobriety is possible. But what once was an easy "Yes!" to answer the question "Would you do the surgery over again?" has become one of "Well, maybe not." Do I like being thin? Yes. And my problems with addiction would probably have surfaced in any number of other ways. But if a person can lose weight with out taking the "easier softer way" like I did, then I would certainly recommend nature rather than surgery. Thanks... Kai |

I pray you will find true freedom from your addictions. The same for us all.
