| Advice please
Today i found out that a friend who i love like a sister has admitted on a blog that she has been bulemic for over a year. I think she needs help but she refuses. Her sister in law is dying of cancer and my friend is saying that her sister in law has reasons to live and she doesn't. I don't know if this is true or just a pay attention to me ploy. She lives in another state so i can't do anything, but i hate to hear that shes so depressed. My friend says that a weight of 139 pounds is fat. She is 39. Am i right to say that she needs help? She has been in my life for 10 years. |

KatieRose, First I would like to welcome you here to the ED forum. Your friend is very lucky to have someone who cares for her in her life. Does your friend need help...well, it would depend on what exactly her issues are, but the mere fact that she has addmitted that she is bulemic, whether or not it is for attention, she needs help. But will she get it.....hon, it would only depend on whether or not she is ready to admitt it and reach out for it. Then and only then will she be helped. You cannot force or bully or guilt or even bribe anyone into recovery for any type of addiction or disorder. You can, however express to her your concern for her health and be ready with any kind of info. for her to have when she is ready. Unfortunately many of us with an eating disorder have distorted views of what is healthy and of what our appearance, our bodies, really look like. We base too much importance on what we think we should look like or what we have been taught that we should look like. It is very hard to accept ourselves for who we are and be comfortable. Luck with your friend.
