| Food Addicts Anonymous
Started FAA about 16 months ago and it has truly changed my life. It's hard to believe FAA is almost 20 years old and so many people out there have never heard of it despite there being 140 meetings in addition to phone and online meetings. If there is anyone living on Long Island we have a meeting every Sunday morning in Lake Grove at 10:00. Hope some of you join us or at the very least check out the FAA website. You too may find the answer that I did. http://www.foodaddictsanonymous.org |

Excellent information - thank you! Can you explain how it differs from Overeaters Anonymous? (I recently read the history of OA and they had a couple of splits over the years due to the way the program was structured). Can you help me understand how FAA works? Thanks!

The key word here is ADDICTION. FAA believes that this is a biochemical disease. Certain foods like sugar, flour and wheat will trigger off cravings and by staying away from those and working a twelve step prgoram we can stay abstinent a day at a time.

Thank you for sharing that here. I will add it to the above links for others to check it out as they come.

Just tonight (Sunday) at 8pm eastern time there was a men's phone meeting started. There is a great deal of misunderstanding and shame in connection with food addiction. No less so for men and this new meeting no doubt will help bring down some of the walls.

See the other thread posted on this page about the FAA Thanksgiving Telephone Marathon. You don't have to lose your abstinence on what could be a very dangerous day for those who have issues with food. There is help and I am living proof that there is hope.

There will also be phone marathons on both Christmas and New Years days, two equally difficult days for many people. I, for one, will be checking in throughout the days for additional support and in turn to lend my support. I treat this addiction as deadly serious stuff. For more information on the phone marathons look at the info posted on the FAA Thanksgiving marathon thread.

Here's wishing everyone a wonderful abstinent new year. It was great going through the holidays having a head on right since I didn't do any sugar. flour or wheat or binge on any foods. That was my second abstinent and I have found over time the cravings are almost non-existent. Food is not the center of my universe any more.
