I've alluded to my weight issues in other threads. While I am heavy I generally don't have issues with my health that are tied to being obese. Over the last couple of years I've endured some close calls with mammograms. I had a disfiguring surgical biopsy in 2005 (and thought they removed the offending mass). Imagine my surprise a year later when the mass is still there. I was able to have a less invasive stereotactic breast biopsy that revealed the mass is a fibroadenoma. I go back next month for my annual mammo and I am now really reluctant. I don't want my breast carved up like someone took a melon baller to it. Fingers crossed on that one. This spring I caught a cold that manifested itself into a host of infections in my ears and chest. My doctor put me on Levaquin and the day after I finished the 10 day course my tongue went numb. In the interim I went to my OB-GYN for routine exams. She sent me for bloodwork and the results came back that I hav elevated platelets and suggested I see a hemotologist. I made that appointment and the blood tests they ran showed an even higher elevation. I mentioned my symptoms but she didn't say anything about them. I am supposed to have a liver/spleen scan before I return to the hemotologist. If that isn't conclusive then she said she'll want to do a bone marrow test. OUCHIE. Yesterday I went to my dentist for a checkup and I asked him about the tongue issue. He x-rayed me and found nothing unusual in the x-ray or the exam. He said it's likely neurological and I should go back to the primary care doctor. I am really worried that it's something serious but with all of the different doctors and different tests it's confusing me. Has anyone here experienced numbness/tingling in your tongue? My taste buds are off as well. I had hoped something would resolve itself but it's not. I am going to call today and see if I can't get an appointment soon. All of this time off of work is eating up my sick leave and eating at my nerves. It's stressful and when I am stressed I eat food. Please think good thoughts for me. |

Ya know? This is just my opinion, but it kinda sounds like the doctors are dancing around the connection to your numb tongue and that Levaquin med. Have you done any on line research about this drug and have you specifically mentioned this med in regards to your tongue when you speak with the doctors. My guess is a yes, but I'm tossing it out there just in case. I'm betting some one knows something and is dodging. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
