Gratitude

Hi All

Had a fantastic time Saturday, spent the day with fellow members. Firstly at our OA intergroup meeting (i am serving treasurer) and then an afternoon workshop on gratitude which my group hosted. It was so much fun that i just had to come and share here and let everyone know how wonderful the twelve step program is in my life.

We all were given half of a post it notepad to write things we were greatful for in recovery on and they got posted on the gratitude door. A few of us ran out of notes and had to have more which was fantastic. The door at the end of the exercise was covered from top to bottom, a wonderful sight.

Here are some of the things that got posted:-

Feeling grown up
Not having childish emotions
Not being body obsessed
Not being food obsessed
Not throwing up
Not starving myself
Being able to be positive
The twelve steps
My sponsor
OA - saved my life
Bill W - What an amazing man
Being accepted
Fellow members who kept me coming back
Not hating what i see in the mirror
Being able to be naked in front of my husband
Having sex with the lights on
This workshop
Being able to laugh at myself
Not taking myself to seriously
Starting over
Not being judged by my size

These were just a few of the things that got posted and by the end of the workshop we were all in such a good mood, we didn't want to leave. We are going to create an article out of the post its for Life line magazine so hopefully if your're an OA member you will get to read them all.

Its so good to have so many places and friends to share my journey with as i walk through life, before SR i only had my meeting once a week and its quite small so finding this site has been a real bonus to my recovery.

Hey Biscuits,
It's so sweet and thoughtful of you to share you exciting experience with us. I've been a part of OA before, but I can't get to the meetings now, so it's been a few months since I've been to one. I can really tell a big difference in myself when I'm going and not going to the meetings. I've not given up on getting to meetings. I'll never officially quit OA. This is just a period of my life when I can't get there, but I'll be back. Maybe we'll meet at one of the workshops some day. Keep going. You're really blessed. And keep sharing here. We need you and we walk this journey to recovery with you, always.

What a wonderful meeting you had, Biscuits. Thank you so much for sharing about it. I loved hearing about the gratitude door. What a great idea and interesting to see the things people wrote. Those are all wonderful blessings in people's lives.

Your thoughts about meetings rings true with me. I haven't been able to get to an Al-Anon meeting for 3 weeks and really miss it. Was finally able to meet with my sponsor yesterday and it was very helpful.

I wish there were OA meetings nearby where I live. After your testimony especially I'd like to find one.
