I don't know why I posted this, but I thought it might be somewhat helpful/inspirational to someone... hopefully. Plus I thought it was a lil cute. So... not only humans suffer from eating disorders. My grandma's cat has an eating disorder. They actually call it that at the vet. She was abandoned for a few weeks before my grandma took her in. Therefore, she was starved for those few weeks. Now that she has a loving home (seven+ people look after her), she over eats. I think part of it is fear that she may be abandoned again and wants to eat up everything while she can, in case that happens. Plus the fact that with those seven+ people taking care of her, she tends to get over fed. But I think that you can compare her ED to human EDs. Instead of being starved, literally, of food (because a once domesticated cat depends on humans to feed it), humans suffering from EDs have been starved of something to create their ED. Usually, I assume it is love or something "normal" that they missed out on in childhood, etc... or a tramatic experience(s), like being abandoned. Make any sense?? I just think its interesting to see the same characteristics. But now she is on a strict diet and exercise regimen. The vet said that if she doesn't lose weight, she'll have to brought in and kept there. So don't ever feel alone. Just think of fat Fluffy being chased up and down the stairs. Wish I had a photo. lol. |

Sounds like Fluffy is a loved cat now and I'm glad for that. Hope she can lose some weight now with everyone knowing she needs that. Sometimes I wish I were a cat. Instead of eating I'd warm someone's lap and get petted and spend my time purring :-). Thanks for the the story. |

Mina, Thanks for the story. I always feel myself get angry when I see someone with heavy pets or children...because it's not the animals or the children's fault! My sister had a cat that they always had to monitor every day of her life, because the cat essentially had bulimia...would eat til she puked, no matter what. She had been an abused cat before she lived with my sister, too. I figured out a few months back that one of (and, darn...only one of) the reasons why I eat is because I was starving to death inside, emotionally, spiritually, and also starving for human kindness and gentle touches. Poor kitty. I'm glad she's safe with Grandma.
