| New here and overeating
Hello, I am new here, and I am having difficulty with my intake of food. I will give you a little back ground for those that do not know me. I medicated myself with narcotics and alcohol for over two years. I lost sixty-five pounds as a result of my addiction. Although I needed to lose the weight, I am not happy how the weight decreased. This is because I haven't used narcotics for two months. I want to eat everything in sight. I have gained ten pouds in two months. I am not sure I should be in this forum, as my weight is at a healthy level. BUT, could I be exchanging one addiction for another? Anyone else out there have this problem? |

Hi, Missymae; I quit smoking 14 months ago and gained far too much weight. I'm trying to lose it now. And yes, I honestly believe I replaced smoking with eating. I think it's the addictive personality. Join us here; share your experience, strength and hope as we walk together down this path. Shalom!

Welcome, If you find comfort and support within these threads and the people here, you belong. Many of us are here for different reasons, but always seem to come around to the same issues. Food and the issues surrounding our day to day challanges with it. I have been one that has traded other addictions for food. I am drinker abusing alcohol to the point of unmanageability and as I quit the abuse of alcohol I increased my abuse of food. The emotional issues are still there but the addiction or doc has changed. It still makes my life unmanageable when my weight makes my health worse and my behavior out of control and destructive. You are at a healthy weight now, that's good. If you can recognize those warning signs before your weight becomes and problem, and apply what you learned and the tools you use to stay clean from the narcotic's...You can learn to stay healthy there also. Make sense. I know it's a bit harder at times because we need food to eat and stay alive but it is possible.

Hi Missymae and Welcome to SR and particularly to this Eating Disorders Forum. It's nice to meet you and I hope that you'll keep coming back. You certainly do belong here in this forum if you are having trouble with food. I have heard alot of people just as the ones before me stated that have traded one addiction for another. I have also seen my son, who is the alcoholic/addict in my life, gain alot of weight after giving up the drugs & alcohol. He's done the same several times. I think that your body and mind are craving something, so something has to be put in place of what was forbidden. I think that it does have alot to do with our addictive personality, but I also think that alot of it has to do with withdrawal and your body and mind needing time to readjust itself and heal. That's just my 2 cents. Again, I'm glad that you're here.
