what to eat?

I have been going to meetings for a few weeks. I am still confused. I don't know if I am overeatig or not. A little about myself... I have always had eating issues either overeating and being overweight or undereating and being semi-anorexic. I was never satisfied with the way I looked always thinking I didn't look good-enough. I am 51 years old and am about 15 pounds overweight I think. I feel fat but maybe I'm not. I know this is a disease of my feelings and weird body images. So far I have given up eating dessert every night. That was a big one for me because I never ate just a little ice cream I ate a half gallon at a time almost every night. But I am only eating a little dessert maybe once or twice a week.(progrss, not perfection)
I am trying to eat three meals a day but I don't know if I am overeating on those three meals. Ihave not lost any weight and am still beating up on myself. Any suggestions of where I should go from here?
Love, JJ

jjaa,

How do you feel after you eat? Do you feel overly-full. Meals should be eaten slowly, or you run the risk of over-eating. Twenty to thirty minutes per meal. From the information I've read, it takes this amount of time for your brain to register that you've had enough to eat. Eating too quickly causes people to over-eat. Of course it's not always the quantity but the calorie and fat content as well.

Your right about the mental part. Right now I am the heaviest I've ever been, about 30 pounds overweight. I don't overeat, and I eat nutritious. I put on the weight after I had a baby at 41. I'm 46 now. I know partly it's due to my metabolism slowing down, and also I don't exercise like I used to. As females I think many of us get that after menopause weight, and it's very hard to get it off. Moderate exercise is the key.

Do you walk or anything?

Juls

Talking

Hi Juls, Thanks for the reply. I walk my dog every day. I used to go to a gym but right now I can't afford the membership. Last night I got into the cookies. I guess I don't have to tell you that I didn't eat just one or two. Something comes over me and it's like I go into a trance. I have no control over it. I have had a really bad cold and have felt terrible for a few days.
Maybe that sparked it. I feel guilty today.
I just will start my program again today. I am really tired of the Yo-Yo thing.
I will try to eat slower. I will not get on the scale for a week. That's a biggy for me.
Thanks for listening.Judy

Your eating a half gallon of ice cream a night!

Sounds like something I USED to do before getting my sanity back.

I've lost 45 pounds since beginning a food plan that allows no sugar, flour or wheat in any shape, way or form. I have no craving for sugar, flour and wheat anymore. It is also a 12-step, very supportive program.

I just found out about it on the web in December and have been abstinent since then.
After spending my life fasting, purging, binging, using drugs to lose weight, I findly found the solution that works for me, the food addcit.

You can go to www.foodaddictsanonymous.org and see if your a food addict.

I hope this helps you, Babs
