I have a question

Is not caring or wanting to eat a disorder?

Not that a person does not like food when its there, but if a person would rather just have a breakfast bar then really eat...

Hi Cynay,
I don't know the answer, but my lil ole thought about it would be that it's either an eating disorder or a physical disorder. Something isn't really the way that's it's supposed to be. Have you always been this way or can you pinpoint a time when it started? If you haven't been checked physically, I would think that you might need to consider it.

Not caring or wanting to eat or have
the desire not to eat could be due to a
chemical imbalnce....depression or
maybe anxiety.....

I have always battled eating,,,
what to eat, not to eat
all my life too...

always wanting to look perfect
and yet im far from it.....

In the end it all comes from likeing
the person with in.

And because of the childhood issues i
have had, my battle with how i look
continues.

Well... I know its not medical.

I have been working with my doctor for over a year because my throid is off... Medically Im in top shape.

I dont know how to explain it. I will eat if I go on a date and the food is there.... But normally I really just dont care. I seem to notice it when my hands start to shake and I have to stop and think about the last time I ate...

I have been drinking things like slim fast when this happens cuz its anoying.... and even today at the store.. I just did not think of buying things to make for dinner.... I thought what is the quickest to do.

I know it sounds strange ... but I just dont like to eat much.... I think I have always been like this when I have been single and alone. When I had to cook for others, I ate.... but not when Im alone.

Have you talked to ur physician about it? There's got to be others out there that that r experiencing the same thing. You won't know till u ask. Once u find out the answer from someone qualified in that area then u can relax. : )

Thanks guys.

I usually eat healthy and yes I do eat smaller amounts all day but I try not to eat much at night. I think I will give the doc a buzz today

Hey Cynay, welcoem down here...lol...thanks for dropping in...

You know, I believe that it all depends on the reasoning behind your not wanting to eat. The way you describe it sounds pretty familar with those that just don't have food as a priority in there life. Like if it's there, you'll eat it....if it's not.. you just don't think about it until your body lets you know ... hey were a little hungry here. (the hands shaking) If you were delibrately not eating....then I would say there was a problem, but in case I don't think so.

I have heard, though, that the Ensure drinks are better for that time that you don't really want food but need the nutirents. That's what my mom was told by her Dr. and the nutricianists that she was working with. You might give that a try on those times that you discover that you need something quick.

Hey sis...

Ensure ... If I can get past the mental block on that one I will give it a try.

When my Father had his stroke and was bedridden... they gave him a feeding tube and ensure is what we gave him... So I struggle a bit with it, but I might try.

You know I think your right, I left a message for my doctor anyway. Im within 9 pounds of the first goal weight I set so Im pretty excited about that... and I just quit smoking 2 months ago.

I would check it out.....I understand about the apprehension, but they have different flavors. My mom is really picky about stuff like that and she likes it. It helps her anyway get past times when she has forgotten to eat...she is a diabetic. But whatever you try it should be full of all the nutrients that you need from a meal. But you shouldn't make you diet all liquid....it is not healthy for it to be a 100% of all you take in. You still need fiber and stuff for the body organs to keep functioning. Check it out with the Dr. first.

Cynay,

Care to give us an update on how you're doing? What have you been working out with your doctor about your thyroid? Care to elaborate more on your eating habits/patterns and how you feel when you want/need/try to eat?

I think I may have some of the same issues you have. I have a thyroid disorder and have for nearly 3 years. I was hyperthyroid (excessive eating, weight loss - yet I never noticed I was eating, just always shoving something in my mouth) and now I am hypothyroid (loss of appetite, weight gain - my under eating has nothing to do with my weight or self image though).

However, I have struggled with food my whole life so my ED isn't related to my thyroid.

Are you on any meds for your thyroid? Sounds like you are hypothyroid... is that right or do you not know?

Anyway... just keep us posted. I'm especially curious about your thyroid issues being related to your ED (if you have one).
