Well, Will Power, there are many people who don't have a belief in God per say, but generally have some belief in some sort of higher power or a kind of ulimate controlling force. And maybe the word "controlling" isn't the best word to use, but at this time I can't think of a better word. The twelve steps are basically designed as a tool to help a person who wants to achieve recovery for whatever addiction they are trying to deal with. It is a support and a way to muddle through some of the baggage that has been in the way of living a peaceful fulfilling life without the crutch of drugs/alcohol or any other addiction that has made thier lives out of control and unhappy. You can read through the twelve steps and take the word "God" out and see if it works for you. That's about all I can say.

Hi Will, While I am not familiar with Alternative 12 step groups for Eating Disorders (which is where you have posted), there are many "We Agnostics" groups in AA and NA, as well as several programs that offer alternatives to 12-step. Here is a link: http://soberrecovery.com/links/12stepalternatives.html
