Well I am back at school now with a whole new life it seems. Thanks to those of you who took the time reply. I did talk with a councelor but she didn't specialize in eating disorders. It did help to get things out though. However I still am struggling to loose weight. Living in this soroity house doesn't make it easier, especially when everyone is constantly working out and watching what they eat and are so beautiful. I did make an appointment to talk with a nutritionist, but I don't know what to do about this obsession. Even though I have found my passion for the future here, I still have one thing that has been stopping me to achieve my all around well being. Someone please reply, with anything else I can do to help me keep my mind off of this. Thanks, your friend shay |

I just bought a terrific book on recovery. It's called It's not What You're Eating, it's What's Eating you. The book is written by Janet Greeson, and it's a 28 day program to recovery. Topics in the book are: I am not my body. Orientation to a new life. Food Plan and Recipes. (The food plan is simple, and is used as guidance only. The author, a specialist in eating disorders, gives you 4 sample menus, and then teaches you how to come up with your own food plans. Food plans are for weight loss, maintenance, and, yes, weight gain) The Recovery Program consists of: Week One - Nourishing the spirit Week Two - Communicating Week Three - the Valley of Shadows Week Four -In Recovery The last section is entitled "Recovery: One day at a time." The author addresses journal writing to get to know your psychological self, recommends you see a therapist if you have unresolved issues, and feels strong that you join an organization like Overeaters Anonymous. I'm willing to follow the advice in the book; if you want to get the book and join me, I'd love to be your weight losing buddy. We can do it together. How about it? About the only thing I will not do is go to Overeater Anonymous because I tend to be shy. But I think that two people together can overcome this compulsion to eat. Hey, this morning, I had a whole pack of Ritz Crackers and 2 glasses of milk. Not a nutrition diet by any means, which is the reason I want to follow a plan. |
