Need Direction In Treatment For A Friend

I have a friend/employee that works for me that has what I would consider a very serious gambling problem. I'm not sure how to go about treatment, he has asked me to advance him on his paycheck to cover some debts. I'm going to help him but am going to insist that I pay his debts directly so he doesn't have a chance to gamble it away and that he get some sort of treatment. Is a psychotherapist the way to go or group meetings I'm not really sure. I would appreciate any help.

Doing for your employee is nice but all you are doing is putting off the problem for a few days. Depending upon who they owe the money to you may not want to be seen writing checks to such people. They may not take a check either...may want cash only.
Gambling is what people were told by my brother when he was looking for cash to buy his coke. He did have a problem because of gambling but that was another time in his life.
Many state lottery commissions have an 800 number that is set up as a help site for people who feel they have a gambling problem. A few places around the country are starting up Gamblers Anon/GA as well. We can take check books away and manage their every penny but untill a person comes to realize they have a problem and start seeking solutions, the problem will always be there.
