Wink Childrens Bible

I have really been wanting to get into a bible study for a long time. I was reading, and never understanding the bible. I went to church as a child, here and there, but never often enough to get much out of it.

Although my teen years were still a mess, my parents gave their lives to Jesus, and made us attend a youth group. We did not want to go, and rebelled as much as we could. We did everything they made us do, but we got into trouble also. I did many terrible things while with that youth group. We were not especially liked among the other kids, but we felt that way from the start anyway. So,, that was my church upbringing.

Now, when I did give my life to Jesus, I didn't understand much about he bible. I prayed before I read, and asked god to give me wisdom to understand what I was reading, yet I still was having trouble.

Finally, I got in a bible study, with my dads wife, ( her husband that died, about the same time my mom died, and from the same type fo thing my mom died from,, he was a minister for many years, so she has alot of wisdom), and I was just so excited to have found someone to explain what I wasn't understanding..

Anyway,, my point here is,, she told me that many people start with a very good childrens bible. Even if they aren't children, it doesn't matter. It is the same, (as long as you check it out) but it is easier to start with a childrens bible, and get the basics, then move into a regular bible. I do also have a recovery bible, which is also very basic, and a KJV.. But I do like the kids bible. Don't laugh, or think I am stupid, she said alot of people do this, when they aren't kids but know little about the bible. I decided to put myself out here, and let you all know the same. It made me feel better about readig the bible, and there is nothing wrong with it.

I am not stupid either. Before I gave it up for my addiction, I was a lab tech and I worked in Quality Control in Technical Services. I just wanted you to knwo that I am not dumb and that is why I need to read this. Maybe I am wrong, and none of you have any trouble with it, but I did, and I found the solution. That is all that matters.

I also did not knwo that all bibles were not the same. See, I knew very little about church.. But I am learning..

I can tell you that if you decide to get a childrens bible, Golden Book puts out a good childrens bible, and they sell them probably locally new, or you can get them on ebay new or you can also get a really cool vintage golden book childrens bible as well. I did that. They are beautiful.. Well all bibles are beautiful love stories, eh??

Love,
Becky

A down side to "some" children's bibles...
Some will give a lesson that doesn't fit the context of the intended message for the scripture it is telling about. Still though it does give a message that is worth learning.

Without knowing Greek or Aramaic, we are all limited by our understanding that the English language limits us to, I find that it is very much needed and so important that we do ask for guidance and pray before starting to read. The Holy Spirit is not limited by language barriers.
You can also look at different versions of the bible and gain a deeper understanding. Some are written word for word, some are written, thought for thought in the translating proccess.
NIV is a good easy read. NASB is a good translation as well. the Message Bible gives the intended thought and understanding but it lacks the wording of an original word for word bible.
Most on line bibles have many interpritaions one aside the other. Makes for a great side by side look at things.

Hey best..

Thanks for responding. Well, I guess what I meant was that, I am reading the childrens bible just to get all the basics, ya know all the info about things like In the beginning, and Noah's ark and so on. Just the very basic things in the bible. That most people already know. I know some things, but others, I just don't know alot about. It's embarrasing, but true. I am sure there has to be others out there that don't know that much either. I think I know moe about end times, that I do about the beginning, or anything else. I think we are taught more on end times.

Anyway, I will "graduate" to my other bibles.. Although I do and am looking up verses, and still take the Recovery Bible, and the KJV to my Bible study, and to my recovery meetings. I do not try to do any type of a bible study with a childens bible. That would not work.

Does that sound any better?

Love ya,
Becky

How do you think I felt when I read the bible for the first time *LOL*

WOW! Hey that wasn't just a good movie on TV. It is in the bible.
Oh YA! I remember that movie. Wow and look here is another one.

The bible stories that I had seen on TV growing up, I thought that they were Holywood (with two moves that were exceptions) Can you believe that the movie industry took real stories and made them into movies? What a novel idea *LOL*

childrens bible for all God's children

wow! I taught preK in a Christian school for many years and I have to say that our daily readings were often so much more meaningful to me than my own study with an adult version! There is something good about the simplicity in the word of God. You can never exhaust the depth of God's word, but I sure do believe that one can pick it apart to a point that is not uplifting at all. The simple song "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know" still brings me to tears when I recall how His unconditional love has seen me through so many phases and times of my life. I think I will go in my attic and pull out my children's bible!
thanks for sharing and I am glad you are enjoying being a 'child' of God!

At school last night, we were talking about C.S.Lewis and his books for children.
The Lion in Narnia is representative of Christ in the story line.
C S Lewis said that when children would write him, they fully understood the intended message from his stories. Many adults don't get it or see it, he had found.

Least we become like little children.....

hi best,
what are you studying? I'm an adult student too, but am taking time off to decide which degree to get- just need 3 more semesters to finish BA in educ. I may switch and will have to backtrack on a few prerequisites. It's all been at a standstill while family crises were taking my time and energy. I am waiting for His directions and am not getting any word yet as to what or if.

Angelgirl...........I have never read a children's Bible, so I have no comment on them. I can share of my own experience, strength and hope. I started out reading the King James, then I read the New American Standard Bible. Later I studied the Nelson King James Study Bible (this was very good and explained so tht I could understand). I then read the New International Version. Later I read the Dake Annotated Bible (this also was very good, but a little more difficult to understand). I am now reading the New American Standard Bible, the Charles Ryrie Study Bible. .......... I learned more from the Nelson King James study Bible. The cost around $34, very reasonable for a study Bible.............Read on Angelgirl..........It's alive...........toad

Thanks much Toad,,

I appreciate the post, and the info.. I will check out the info you have given me, but I am involved in abible study now, finally. So far anyway things have gone really, really well. The only problem has been that we have had to cancel the last couple of weeks, due to illness, and a concert.. We plan to get back together next week, if it doesn't happen, then I am going to go to a church on Tuesday mornings, right by my house, the church that holds the celebrate recovery meetings I attend., I really am thinking about going anyway, I would king of liek to get together with a group fo just women like that, I could use the women friends. Especially since they are Christains. The only thing that really hold me back from that particular bible study, is that the women are all a bit older than me, and they are from a different income level than I am from, and also only one that just started the bible study recently, is in my recovery meetings, otherwiise, they are a group of very nice, sweet, ladies. I don't want to shock any of them. They all know so much,,

Thanks for listening,,
Prayers,
Becky

They may understand a lot more then we give them credit for.
As the bible states...The older should teach the younger.

Age is not a requirement for getting together with older folks.
I think you may find some enjoyment there. Give it a try and find out.

Your group sound great! I think you all will be able to benefit from each other.

As far as the Bible, I used to use a Bible that had KJV on one side of the page and the living Bible on the other side. That helped me understand it a little better. I don't use that much anymore. I usually just read the KJV and research if I need help.
