Hi folks, as I was reading your posts here- this one stood out. I had something happen to me a few hours ago- has nothing to do with recovery but I am very upset. I am physically ok, but was just assaulted by a woman in a parking lot. She jumped out of her car, charged at me and started cursing and shoving. I was so stunned and did not fight back- nobody came around to help me. I was standing in a spot for my friend, who is on crutches- she needed to park close to the movie entrance. I backed away so as not to get hurt more and I didn't engage her in any way. Thank God I am ok- I called 911 and they couldn't do much- her word against mine kind of thing. My friend and I were escorted to our theater and saw our movie (Narnia) I am still shook up from it all- it 'brought back to mind' some past things I have been through and I am already stressed. My son is here and he is doing terrific- so that's another 'thank you God' thing. It would be great to hear from someone with some encouragement. I am feeling very anxious. I keep remembering the words: "fear not" coming from the Lord- HOw about that? I know it, believe it but am not feeling on top of things.

Wow cmc,

I'm sorry you went through that. It's too bad she got away with something like that. It's going to take some time for you to calm down. We go through that flight or fight response and it takes our bodies time to settle back down.

Try to do something relaxing.

Hugs,
MG

Be as gentle as lambs but as crafty as a fox.

We live in a fallen world and need to remain on gaurd many times.

Sure can shake you up when things like that happen out in the open.
The Lord sure must have been with you.
I know the Lord will protect me but I still stay out of dark alleys.

Glad to see you are ok.
Was she after your pocketbook or maybe mistaken you for someone else?

thanks for the encouragement, she was very crazy- had a wild eyed look and kept taunting and threatening to give me some more- she ran out of her car and wanted the parking space I was standing in- her bf began to drive into it- so of course I backed away from where I was standing. she was really enjoying herself- she was in early 20's and I don't look my age, but I am over 50- so I guess- her mind I am an old lady!!! At least I can laugh about it- I did not expect to be so upset about this- I am still a bit shaken up today. I had a nice chat with an 'adopted mom' from church and she prayed with me. I will go to the station later and file a report- just in case and this whole situation has motivated me to take a firearms course- so that I can legally defend myself ... with pepper spray that is! In Fl we have new rights to defend ourselves without the old requirement of trying to get away from your attacker first. That girl will do this again to someone else- she could have been on drugs- she was totally enraged- even coming at me as I walked to the curb. what was wierd was how her bf stayed so calm and detached from it all. I am praying that this may be a wakeup call for them. A different person might have 'cleaned her clock' right then and there. I am so glad I didn't respond to her, things would have escalated for sure. I will be talking this through alot in order to get over it. Pray I can let it go- I am not a good 'letter goer" ( bad grammer- but it hits the spot)
thanks for the reply

ps
Yes! God was watching over me!! I am not hurt physically at all. Something similar happened nearby at another theater- 2 elderly men were arguing in line and one pushed the other. He fell, hit his head and died! So .... yes indeed my God has protected me once again. I really did want her to get in trouble, (being honest here) but unless someone comes forward it is my word against her. I am not looking for more involvement in it- but she is dangerous. God will decide what to do about it- the serenity prayer is perfect for this- and step 1 being 'helpless' could not be more evident in situations like these. I did nothing wrong and could not fix this- (3 C's)
bye

I am laughing here as I remember a video I had seen. A guy causes a car accident and tries to blame it on the lady. Her car had 3 ladies in it older then us. One got out with her bible in hand and beat the guy off with the word *LOL*
I own guns and I know how to throw a punch as well.
Since my becoming a Christian, I have fought a inner battle over defending myself to what degree. For now, I go moment by moment and rely on the Lord that I may never need find an answer to that battle inside.
As for my own inner battle and how you handled it... I think you did a GREAT JOB.

hello,
I am just now getting back to this thread- update on me:
I am taking it easy, having moments of forgetfullness (ie what day of the week is it?) and taking care of myself. I think that the key to know about the 'defending oneself" issue is to be walking in the Spirit at all times- in a flash we have to think and acat quickly. I often ask myself "is it worth it?" and I may back down on an issue if doing so would cause me ( or maybe the other person- depending on details) any more harm. I really do think I have it in me to 'take someone on' especially if it is to defend someone else who is helpless. Maybe there is a little 'Rambo' or Chuck Norris in all of us just waiting to peek out! I know, I know - well maybe the boy David or the warrior Samson are better examples!!!! One thing for sure, Jesus is gentle but He is not a wimp!! Bravery and courage are admirable traits. It is so hard to distinguish sometimes the many facets of the Christian life. Sometimes it is noble to suffer and sometimes I think we have to be bold and take a stand. It is nice to know that you have such a good base of Bible study behind you- You will be great in His service. What are your plans after you are done studying?

I have often thought of what I would do in a crisis situation and what I have come up with is a quick prayer.

Lord, the strength of Sampson and / or the wisdom of Solomon - Now Please.

As in all things…Trust in the Lord and no matter what happens, we will be taken care of.
