I remember my sponsor remarking once, "I think that's our most honest prayer, sometimes, "God, help!".
And of course, that sounds good, sign me up, I understood. But now I understand, I think. And God's help is right there, quick as our cry, even swifter, in that moment.

and what did the father do when he had seen his son off in the distance?
First of all...the father had to be looking, just as God waits and looks for our return daily. So as the father would look for his son to come down the road...he didn't wait for the son to reach the front door...The father ran down the road to meet the son with great joy in his heart that the son had returned.
How much more does God love us? I would say...even before we turn to take that first step home...God is waiting right behind us with open arms.

It is so great to know that because when I was lost out there, it is those arms and that love that was calling me back home again. It was knowing that I could go right there and be safe in the arms of God.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know
whatwe ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself prays for us with groans
that words cannot express. Romans 8:26

There are those days when all we manage to get out is "God help me" and the Spirit prays on our behalf. The Spirit's response to our weakness is to help
us.
