Questions on Fasting

I tried to search to see if there were any threads on this topic before I produced a new one. I did not see one.

I want to (and am being encouraged to fast) for spiritual purposes. My questions are: how long do you fast. Do you only drink water or juice?

Has anybody done spiritual fasting and would be willing to share?

TIA

Ang

In my opinion, spiritual fasting is done as an humble act. So how you fast or how long you fast is up to you, as long as you are praying & not letting everyone else know that you are fasting, but are keeping it between you & God.

I am reading Toxic relief by don colbert M.D. for fasting and restoring health from toxicity. Spiritual fasting can empower your prayers and break the strongest bondage. I highly reccomend this christian author, he speaks based on bible scripture.

Many kinds of fasting. Doesn't just need be food.
As stated it is something between you and God.
I did a fast where I ate no solids. Had coffee with sugar and cream, juices, milk, soda. The important part of fasting is the time you would be doing what ever you are fasting from...use that time to talk with God.
The bible tells of a husband and wife that will come to an agreement for a set amount of time to abstain from sex. The reason is so they both can come together in prayer... two as one talking with God. It isn't a test as it says return to one another so temptation doesn't set in. Fasting is a personal gift we can give God. I felt inspired to fast as I feel it was a guidance of the Holy Spirit. A 6 day fast was all I did and it felt great both in body and spirit to do so.
A Nazarite (as Sampson was) would fast their whole life or for a time they set.
No wine shall touch the lips nor knife shall touch the hair. John the Baptist was also a Nazarite. Dedicated in commitment to God for life and no wine touched his lips nor did he ever cut his hair.

An excellent book that has a really deep chapter on fasting is the book "Celebration of Discipline", It has been around for quite a while, but out of all of the articles and books about fasting I have read, this one hit me the most.

A good point to notice in regards to fasting is that after 3-5 days (I believe, it's been a while since I read up) your body goes through a serious detox period. Which is an important part of recovery because your body maintains traces of the addiction. Are you truly abstinant if the substance is still in your system?
